He remembers her hands. Soft, pale and warm; ever present. Straightening a collar, brushing dust from a jacket. Weaving her hair into a plait every morning and writing poems in her journal. Calming him when he was hurt or angry; brushing away a wayward tear. Gripping his shoulders in silent comfort or carding gently through his hair when he was upset or unwell and couldn't show it. (Must never show it.)

Her hands were strong. No stranger to work or getting dirty and used to accomplishing tasks. Spending hours in the garden coaxing fledgling plants back to life. Preparing meals in the kitchen or tinkering with household projects in a way no Vulcan would. They could fix a leaky faucet or nurse the neighborhood stray back to health. Hands that would lovingly trim his hair, or darn his clothes so he could fit in with others determined to alienate him. (What must your father have been thinking to marry a human. Perhaps he wasn't; highly illogical of him.)

He remembers how curious she was. She had to have been to follow an alien species to another planet; to create a new life for herself amongst a people who were not curious or understanding. He remembers how she accepted any and every challenge that came her way no matter the difficulty or newness of it. (We shall name him Spock.)

Her hands supporting him in all that he did and wanted to do. (As always, no matter what you do, you shall have a proud mother.)

One hand on his father's chest would stay whatever gently spoken criticism he was about to dispense. (You must control your emotions, son; do not let them control you. To do so is to be…Human.)

One hand on his father's cheek would soften the hard edges of his face. (I married her because I loved her.)

He remembers a soft, strong, warm hand reaching to him in need (Do not be frightened, Spock.)…and disappearing from his view forever.

He wishes he could forget.

AN: Something different from my usual stuff. It's actually a bit of a test run for the second chapter of Dah'es. I've been working on writing Spock's POV and to everyone who alerted it, the next chapter should be up in the next week. Thanks for your patience, and thanks for reading!

Story is not betaed and therefore, all mistakes are my own.
