He's always waited for him to come home. He'd always said that nothing would stop him from dragging the teme home with his own hands...
He'd never been one for allowing pity into his thoughts. He hated it with more passion than most showed at their favorite thing.
He had never been one to let anything go—or more specifically, anyone. How often had he pictured the day that he brought Sasuke home? How many times had he awoken during the night to swallowed screams and torrential tears? He'd lost count after 563. It didn't matter anymore. The spoiled bastard could stay wherever the fuck he was. It wouldn't bother Naruto...Today, the fifth anniversary of the day his own world fell to hell, is the day his eyes cleared of the tears blinding him.
Sasuke had never been his. No matter how many times he'd tried to convince himself that he could make Sasuke see, he knew he couldn't. The damned bastard would always be three steep steps ahead and far to the left.
Naruto walked by the Uchiha complex, and didn't fight the urge to shed tears that caused his very soul to ache. He could smile, only for a moment.
What did it matter if Naruto would never see him again? Being seventeen had many advantages...none that spring to mind unbidden, but surely there were some in that regard.
Nope, even the cruel winds crying coldly about his face reminded him that he would forever be alone. Sasuke would never come home...
A tear—to anyone other eye it looked to be the first rain drop—slithered across tanned cheeks. Maybe it was better this way. This pain that he lived with, the agony that prevented even the attempts at taking his own life, it kept him alive. So what if Sasuke never returned? He needed to let go...it was the best thing for him...and Sasuke...
A cry rose from the village that the traitor had been found. He ignored it. If he went, undoubtedly there would be a fight.
And another tear fell.
And another...
And then another.
Soft splashes filled his mind as his heart overruled what he'd decided. Those words meant nothing. Sasuke had come home. His best friend was home...
And so the rain fell upon them as they raced towards each other. Maybe letting go would be the best thing for them, but neither felt strong enough to try...
