It had been some time since they had separated from the group of Fairy Tail mages. Night had fallen and the three from the Crime Sorciere were sat around the fire discussing their plans for the future.

"So, Jellal," Meredy suddenly remarked out of the blue, a smile written all over her face, "Why did you lie and tell her you had a fiancé?" She was referring to the almost-kiss Erza and Jellal had shared earlier before he pushed her away abruptly mumbling a poor excuse about having a fiancé.

Jellal's eyes widened as he took in Meredy's wide-eyed look of curiosity across the fire. "You heard that !? " He stammered. He then cut himself off and looked away a slight hint of red over his face.

Ultear broke in gently, "Isn't it better to be honest with yourself? Or did you decide to continue punishing yourself?"

Jellal's smile was rueful as he looked at the flames, avoiding their gaze. " 'Punishment' is the rule for Crime Sorciere isn't it? We all know that I can't fall in love with people who walk in the light. I only hope that Erza can be happy forever." He closed his eyes, hoping that was the end of the topic.

However, Meredy and Ultear were not about to pass up a chance to tease Jellal further. He said punishment was the rule after all. Casting a sly glance at Ultear, Meredy remarked, "Even so, why didn't you come up with a better lie?"

Ultear smirked, seeing Jellal's discomfort. "It's really bad. You think that's cool?"

Meredy pressed on, "I mean you could have come up with a better lie right?" She nudged Ultear, "Didn't Erza just experience a time skip?"

Ultear and Jellal both cast questioning looks at Meredy. Neither of them comprehended what could possibly be running through the younger mage's thoughts. Jellal arched an eyebrow at the girl, "Your point being?"

Meredy leaned forward, a mischievous grin playing on her face. "Oh nothing," she said airily. It's just that if you consider how she's technically …7 years younger than you…" She paused for effect, liking the look of dawning comprehension on Jellal's face. "Well I would just have said I'm not into paedophilia."

Author's note: I AM aware that 7 years is not a huge difference. I just felt like highlighting it for the lols. : Also feel there is not enough Jerza fics online. So I plan to use this account to upload one shots for my one of my favourite couple in FT 3
