note1: This has nothing to do with the fic, but, does anyone feel that Wally and Artemis have a very fragile relationship? I would like to write a DickArtemis fic but I don't think I'll be able to face Wally afterward.
note2: Ugh. I always get so attached.
note3: Enjoy the read!

"So who was the necklace for?" Zatanna asked—attempting casualness.
Dick knew where this was going. He was not going to go there with his ex-girlfriend.
Bruce had taught him better than that.
"So, anything you want to do? The Justice League doesn't give very many vacation days, huh?"
The two were in the kitchen of Mount Justice. Everyone had claimed to have "prior arrangements," but Dick knew that they just didn't want to get caught in the crossfire of Dick and Zatanna's now ex-relationship. The two were on good terms—it's been more or less a year now—but the team remained wary, and had very obviously made a speedy escape.
Dick was working on making them peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches. Zatanna was watching.
"The necklace," Zatanna stated firmly, informing Dick that his attempts of changing the subject were futile at best, "Who was it for Dick?"
So, he wasn't going to get out of this one.
Dick sighed and put down the jar of grape jelly and the butter knife. Zatanna looked expectantly at him.
"It was for a friend, Zatanna. Our friend. Can we please not talk about this?"
Zatanna narrowed her eyes. "Well the spell for the charm was rather specific Dick, one doesn't hide their identity from the world for fun. If one of our friends is in trouble, I would like—"
Dick placed his hand on Zatanna's. "I got this."
Though Zatanna was stubborn, she knew when to quit. She had been with Dick long enough to know when he was serious, and when he was serious. He had on his persist-and-I-will-walk-away look.
"Fine," she bit out, defeated.
Dick smiled. "Thank you for understanding," he replied, returning to making the sandwiches.
Now the conversation could finally move on.
"Just.. buy me a necklace and we won't discuss this anymore."
Dick blinked.
Wait—what?
"Is this what it's about? You wanted a necklace?"
"Hey!" Despite the fact that the one that should be angry was Dick, Zatanna looked even more furious than he did. "When we were dating you never bought me any jewelry!" Zatanna leaned across the counter and pulled Dick down by the shirt to where they were eye level, "And then you ask me for jewelry to give to a friend? Who is obviously a girl! Does that even make sense?"
Dick was taken aback.
"Wait… you're… jealous?"
Zatanna turned red, realizing what she was saying. She let go of his shirt and looked away. "I hate you," she muttered.
Dick sighed. Women.
"I… I didn't know you were the jewelry type," he explained. Dick had forgotten how good she was at making everything his fault. "I'll… keep that in mind. For, uh, next time."
Zatanna didn't look at him but she grabbed the peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich when he finished making them. Before taking a bite, Dick was pretty sure he heard her mumble, "You better."
Ugh. Women always win.
