He was searching; that much was obvious. He was looking to give meaning to his life and was searching for it in Christ.

His blue eyes were filled with the desire to learn, the uncertainty in his eyes betraying the opulence of his neatly trimmed brown beard and violet-colored clothing.

Though he tried to look put-together, there was something nervous and awed about him as he approached Jesus and asked after a means to salvation.

The fight – the very hope behind his eyes – left him when he was ultimately told to "sell all that thou hast." It was instantly obvious that he would be doing no such thing. The followers of Jesus who were gathered around listening to the conversation had to wonder if the young ruler noticed the resigned disappointment in their Lord's eyes as He watched him leave, and they wondered what exactly the young ruler was thinking.

Yet, in truth, they all knew that the ruler's greatest thoughts and concerns were only for his possessions. How sad a fact it was.

This is a characterization of the rich young ruler from Luke 18:18-24 that I wrote for school Tuesday. I just thought I'd pass it on to you guys.:)
