Chapter One: Just For Tonight
The City of Angels, at night. It was like a whole different world. At day, the day people were out doing their normal thing. Work. Going to see each other. Doing whatever.
At night. The creatures come out. No, not the ones you see in the movies. Vampires, witches, werewolves.
No.
More like the thugs, the freaks, the whores on the streets. The murderers, the partiers, the drug lords, or the druggies themselves.
I just kept to myself, and the ones I trusted. I didn't talk to anyone I didn't know, like how mother's tell their children. The only person I spent most of my time with, was him. And of course, his little sweetheart, Danny. They made me smile.
The local pay phone at seven. That's where I asked Ashe to meet me. Usually, I would use my time working at Jen's. A bar that I waitress at during the afternoon 'till five. Then I'd go to Ashe's garage and hang out with him there, sometimes help him work on the motorcycles that come in. Tonight though, my mother needed me. She was in the hospital, due to her cancer. I had to go visit her.
I pulled the car up to the curb. Then, I got out. I saw him standing there. I smiled. Right on time.
I walked up to him. "Hey there, stranger."
"Hi hun, so what'd you call me up here for?" he asked.
"My mother, she needs to see me tonight." I told him. "Her cancer is getting worse, that's what the doctor told me. He told me at least to make one more visit."
I do visit her as much as I can. But I'm going to stay longer tonight.
"Oh, I'm very sorry." he said. "Would you like me to come with?"
"Not this time. I want to be alone with her." I said. "It's just...yeah."
"I understand." Ashe replied. He wrapped his arms around me. "You can come up to my apartment tonight, if you wish."
"I will." I nodded.
Ashe put his forehead against mine. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I just need to do it by myself. It's only for tonight." I said. "I'll sneak in later, hopefully I won't wake Danny."
"I'll be up so you won't wake him." he chuckled.
I smiled again, giggling some. "Alright."
Ashe pressed his lips against mine. "I love you, Gen. Be careful."
"I love you too, Ashe." I replied, as he let me go. "I will."
