Chapter 1 : Voices
An unknown voice calls in the dark "You were always so forgetful" it continued "are you confusing me with someone else?". A bright flash then wakes James up from his 'usual' dream. James got up from his bed and poured down water in the glass to take his anti-depressant pills, hoping that these night terrors will end someday.
James's usual routine was only to go to a job from eight in the morning to six in the evening. From there he went on to a AA meeting which ended at eight in the night, then he took a meal and went back home to sleep. He was never like this. Not long ago there was joy in his life brought by his wife Mary who passed away four months ago. His troubled childhood played a major part in his depression aswell. His parents were divorced and was raised by his mother. Eventually she passed away in a car crash when james was only ten years old.
He was only waiting for God to take his soul away or he was waiting for the right moment to give it away himself...until one day. Three knocks came from the front door of his house. When he answered it, a postman was standing infront of him with a vacant expression as he handed out an envelope to him. James took it hesitantly as he became more and more aware that something was very wrong with this person because of his unnerving long stare. James thanked him for the letter and quickly went back inside his house and locked the door.
Still something was bothering him and it was the fact that no one knew him. He had no friends or family he could talk to anymore, then who could have sent this letter to him at such an unusual time? He sat down in his fireplace and took a proper look at the envelope. It was slightly covered in dust and seemed like it had been kept near fire for far too long. Gently he opened the envelope and inside he found a letter which was written in a handwriting that was very familiar to him. He knew it was from someone he knew but could not remember who. This made his head ache extremely badly. He quickly took some painkillers and as soon as the pain was gone he started to narrate the letter loudly.
"In my restless dreams,
I see that town.
Silent Hill.
You promised me you'd take me
there again someday.
But you never did.
Well, I'm alone there now...
In our 'special place'...
Waiting for you...
Waiting for you to
come to see me.
But you never do.
And so I wait, wrapped in my
cocoon of pain and loneliness.
I know I've done a terrible
thing to you. Something you'll
never forgive me for.
I wish I could change
that, but I can't.
I feel so pathetic and ugly
laying here, waiting for you...
Every day I stare up at the cracks
in the ceiling and all I can think
about is how unfair it all is...
The doctor came today.
He told me I could go
home for a short stay.
It's not that I'm getting better.
It's just that this may be
my last chance...
I think you know what I mean...
Even so, I'm glad to be coming
home. I've missed you terribly.
But I'm afraid, James.
I'm afraid you don't really
want me to come home.
Whenever you come see me,
I can tell how hard it is on you...
I don't know if you
hate me or pity me...
Or maybe I just disgust you...
I'm sorry about that.
When I first learned that
I was going to die, I just
didn't want to accept it.
I was so angry all the time and I
struck out at everyone I loved most.
Especially you, James.
That's why I understand
if you do hate me.
But I want you to
know this, James.
I'll always love you.
Even though our life together had
to end like this, I still wouldn't
trade it for the world. We had
some wonderful years together.
Well, this letter has gone on
too long, so I'll say goodbye.
I told the nurse to give
this to you after I'm gone.
That means that as you read
this, I'm already dead.
I can't tell you to remember me,
but I can't bear for you to
forget me.
These last few years since I
became ill... I'm so sorry for
what I did to you, did to us...
You've given me so much and
I haven't been able to return
a single thing.
That's why I want you to live
for yourself now.
Do what's best for you, James.
James...You made me happy"
He was shocked at what he had just read. Without any questions entering his mind, he quickly went to his room and took a bag out from his closet. He started to pack in such a rush that he did not even try to arrange his clothes in the bag. Once he got out he folded the letter in his dark green jacket and put the bag in his cars trunk. He took one long look at his house and then he entered his car, turned on the engine and started to drive to his destination, the 'special place' in Silent Hill.
