Chapter 1: Awakening of the binary heaven.

A female student woke up very abruptly. She walking slowly compared to the student that past through her. As she suddenly find herself walking to school. Her left eye is twitching as if its in pain. It look like she suffering a headache, the way she stop and massage her head to ease the pain, make it obvious that its not a mild one.
On that day. In potent numbness, she wake up twice as fast as normal.
The girl walk to the schoolyard. The weather is clear and the cloud are cloudless. Its probably around 7:30 a.m. Students from the same school as she attend are just about to get into the school just like her.
"I wonder what season it is." She asked herself. When she try to recall what season it is, she started to get so dizzy that she almost pass out. She may wind up back in bed if she let go and faith.
Time passes as the girl standing near the school gate. She been embracing a rush of useless information, regarding the situation that she doesn't even know what it is. Moment later, she decided to stop worrying herself and focus on what's up ahead. Like the normal stuff everyone see at a school, like the hustle and bustle of the students by the entrance.
She stopped from her track and thought of something. She staring at the crowded school with a wide eye. The browned haired girl is starting to realize what's actually going on. The school. It hasn't changed, by that she mean it hasn't changed at all. When she push the thought, her field of vision fizzles.
Everything that happens yesterday is still the same as today.
Just like yesterday, today there's a crowd of students milling in front of the school gate, and more are being directed that way. As to what's going on, a boy in black uniform in front of the school gate.
He's name is Issei Ryuudo from what she recall. She remember this from the first time. When Issei notices her, he pushes through the crowd.
"Good morning! Lovely weather we're having, don't you think?" Issei sudden greeting has took the girl by surprise. "Hmm? why do you look so surprised?" Issei noticed her reaction, but before she can answer Issei cut her off.
"We announced at last week's assembly that this month the student council would strictly enforce school rules." Issei told her. He runs through his spiel, as if this was the first time he'd ever disclosed the information.
'This again?"
That's when she realized something. The girl already know this, she know it. She already know what happens, it's happened more than once. Suddenly the girl headache started to hurt again. It starting making her dizzy, It feel like she being forcibly logged out of her consciousness.
"First, let me check your student ID. I shouldn't need to remind you, but it should be on you at all times." She handed out her school ID. As her school ID is being checked, it become so obvious now.
She answer clearly to the question that usually makes her go dizzy.
"Great. There's no telling when an emergency might occur, and it will be a great help if you have your ID." As he remind her the importance of keeping a School ID. She started to feel nauseous, and she know it has nothing to do with what she ate for breakfast this morning.
The girl feel nauseous because of the world around her. It's repeating itself over and over and that's making her sick.
"Now for the uniform inspection...Collar, check! Pant hems, check! and your socks...check!" As Issei list and check her uniform. A feeling inside her has starting to build.
She want him to get out of her way. She want this repetition to stop. She then push him aside and go forward.
"Next is the contents of your bag... Notebooks, textbooks, pencil box! not even a whiff of contraband. Your nails are evenly cut, and your haircut is sensible. Indeed, quite remarkable. You're a model Tsukimihara Academy student."
Even his not facing anyone. Issei keep talking loudly. It making her headache worst, the girl felt shiver on her body. But she know one thing for sure. This is wrong. This is not the school she know, it can't be.
This must be a dream. She should wake up... But who Hakuno Kishinami waking for?
Hakuno Kishinami anxiety and headaches are only getting worse. Afternoon arrives while she desperately trying to find a way to escape this bizarre situation. As is now the norm, her vision is overlaid with some kind of unnatural distortion.
Uneasiness. Futility. Emptiness. The brown haired girl want someone to explain to her the true nature behind it all of these feelings. There must be a key somewhere. Something that will have the answers to all of the girl questions.
Moment later, Hakuno step outside of the classroom and then proceed on the first floor. But the moment her foot step on the first floor, things started to feeling intense.
She saw a student wearing a red uniform, walking calmly on the school hallway, even with this unnatural distortion of Hakuno's vision, the boy golden hair shine brightly. It was one of her classmate. His name is Leo from what she recall, the new transfer student. Hakuno immediately feel intimidated and humiliated the moment she lay eyes on him.
There also someone training behind him. Hakuno recognized it was one of her classmate. The more she think, the more Hakuno realize that Leo isn't the only anomaly she'd come across while on campus. There are other thing that seem off as well.
It's becoming clearer for her now. There are people who shouldn't exist. Students that mysterious vanish. The fabric of reality is coming unraveled.
Don't turn away now.
A word came across her mind.
What is the "truth"?
a question came next.
What defines the world you know?
and another came next. More and more keep crossing to the mind of the confuse girl.
Don't turn away now.
There is a reason why you're here!
That must be it. Hakuno Kishinami, after fighting the headache and a distorted vision finally decide to not allow herself to not know truth. She soon then follow the two and ended up near at the end of the hall.
She saw Leo and one of the guys from her class are talking in the hallway up ahead.
"The attention to detail is quite impressive. Even the surrounding air is surprisingly substantial." Leo said praising the environment around him. "If that is the case, this world is in some ways more real than the real world it represents." The way his eyes glitters as he looking around tells that he sincerely honest about his comment.
"How about you guys? What are your thoughts on this?" For a moment, it feels like his including Hakuno on this. Even though they haven't see each other eye to eye, it really feels like his including Hakuno on this.
However, Leo continued talking to her classmate, Not even bothering to look at her. But becuase Leo grew into a well known and noble family, for him its rude to look into someone else while your still having a conversation with someone. "Greetings. I believe this is the first time we've had an actual conversation." Leo gives a smile with no hostility.
It surprise Hakuno to see such smile from the boy. It was bright as the sun and it gives warm feeling like the sunlight in the morning. Yet somehow or someway, even with a smile bright like him. She having a weird feeling that there is something in his smile.
"Attending school wasn't half-bad. I've never had the opportunity to go to one before now." Keeping that smile the transfer student continued. "In that respect, this has been quite an interesting experience...However, the time for fun has come to an end. I did not come here to play at being a student."
It took just a second for her to see a quick glance coming from Leo. It really didn't last long, so she wasn't sure if he really look on her way. "No matter how enjoyable the detour, eventually one must return to their appointed path." He said.
"And for me, the time to do so has arrived..." With those final words, Leo turns his back on Hakuno and the nameless boy who's following him.
"Farewell...No, that's not quite right. I don't think farewell would be accurate in this situation." Even though his facing the wall, Leo still keeping his bright smile. And it only grew a little as he thought of something. And that make the noble child smile more. " For reasons I cannot explain, I have the distinct feeling that we will see each other again. So I guess I should use the more congenial. "See you later."
"Well. it's time for me to move on. I wish you the best of luck." Leo said as much, even going so far as to look in Hakuno direction.
For some inexplicable reason, She not surprised that Leo knew she was spying on him. She tried to get things straightened out in her mind when Leo suddenly. Disappears. As more moment passes, Hakuno's confusion grown much bigger.
And the fact that the student who is following him also disappears after touching the same spot on the wall didn't help either. At the moment he vanish, Hakuno vision distorts and the shock threatens to overwhelm her.
What is going on here...?
She wonder if this place is the source of her unease. She then place her shaking hand into the same wall that both of them had touched. Expecting to be drawn in. It seems Hakuno finally saw, that the way to the truth, to why she having these feelings, begins right here.
"I want to know" Hakuno said to herself. Not caring whether their are people around her, or she might start getting crazy as she talk to herself more often. She determined to know the truth and she sick of letting herself live in a lie. Hakuno doesn't care anymore. After touch the wall once again, the atmosphere changes. A doorway out of nowhere, an entrance, where the concrete wall used to be. It's not something of this world. There's no doubt this door leads to someplace unfathomable.
Hakuno Kishinami bid farewell to the false world, and take her first step toward the truth.
An entrance to another world. Beyond this door, the previous statement perfectly describes the view she imagined. Hakuno soon notice the thing behind her. Behind the girl is her strange, silent attendant.
Hakuno though of it as a doll that only purpose is to be her sword and shield for what mysteries lies ahead. A disembodied voice suddenly confirms her thoughts. Although she have yet to learn anything, she need to keep moving and do something besides standing there.
Being herself, she believes that at the very least, there might be some clues to this bizarre experience up ahead. Yet she have no choice but to head into the darkness with only this strange doll as protection.
Walking into a long corridor this place become no longer a typical school campus, the floors and wall, the air, even the aura are slightly off. Its like at any moment, something will come up and surprise her.
"It's very much like a dungeon here." Hakuno said to herself. Meanwhile her silent doll attendant is living up to its name. Its starting to make Hakuno more worry that if this keep up, with the silent air and no one beside her is talking. She might really end up being crazy.
"Welcome, potential master." A disembodied voice suddenly greet the worried girl. The person who owns the voice is nowhere to be seen, and it look like its coming from above. "If your looking for answers, you must reach the goal. Now please step forward."
Without any choice, and its the first voice she heard after entering the "Real" world. Hakuno without resisting, did what she been told. She soon then saw a circle robotic thing that is floating from the ground in front of her. Before she could ask what is this thing, the voice from above answered the girl's question.
"Before you is an Enemy program. It is programmed to attack on sight. Touching it will initiate a battle." Hearing that, Hakuno was about to ask something. Probably she concern about her well being and also the doll. "But you won't actually fight as you are too fragile. The effigy given to you will fight in your stead."
Looking behind her is the effigy, the silent doll companion that is following her for a while now. "If your effigy is ever destroyed in battle, you will no longer be shielded from harm." The unknown voice warn the girl.
"To put it bluntly, you will die. So be very careful in battle."
"But there's no need to be afraid... for now, just do what I say and you'll be perfectly safe for the time being. So tell me are you ready?" The voice ask.
Taking her time to process everything. She took a deep breath and freely release it. Clutching her hand, she then nodded and followed the unknown voice instructions. The voice instruct her with basic commands of fighting. Attacking, defending, and breaking the enemy defences are the important key that the voice pointed out.
Moments later. After fighting the enemy what the voice called 'programs'. Hakuno starting to get the basic, since she starting to command the 'effigy' by her own. Meanwhile the effigy took her command and execute it without hesitation nor worrying about following a command came from someone who's not experienced. But regardless it still did its job. But the scratches that mark on its skinless body, leave Hakuno a bit concern about her effigy.
Nevertheless she reach the end point.
At the end of a very long road, after going through a door that suddenly appeared in the wall. The oppressive air that this place where the spirits of the dead still linger. Here's her goal. Well that what Hakuno thought.
As she walk forward and further in at the unknown place, it appears as if someone had collapsed on the ground. Hakuno look into his face and she saw a familiar one. It's the student who was following Leo just now!
Out of concern she call him out, but get no reply. Hakuno didn't give up and she started to shake him in an attempt to wake him up. But then, the girl notice... He is stoned cold. Hakuno body suddenly become pale as the corpse before her and she can no longer think coherently. All she can do is stare in bewilderment.
It is at this moment-
That the fallen effigy lying next to the male student comes on to its feet with a clatter. After facing trial and having to fight several enemy programs to get where she is now, it obvious that this is an enemy as well.
Without warning, it suddenly twists around and comes right at Hakuno. Luckily her instinct kick in and she quickly react to it and command her own effigy. It came at the right time, hitting the side of the enemy effigy, it sent into the nearest wall and crushing to it.
But that didn't stop the enemy effigy as it's stand like nothing happened. Hakuno knew that this one is different than the other. So it obvious that it wont shut down easily. She started at it to observed her enemy effigy, carefully crafting her next move while waiting for it's next move. When suddenly it dashes towards her effigy.
Due to surprise, the effigy's master reacted to it too late. The enemy effigy soon hit her effigy and slamming it to the ground, Hakuno tried to think of a counter attack but the enemy effigy keep punching and beating her effigy on the ground.
The girl soon felt a lost of connection on her effigy. Then she realizes that the enemy effigy started to walk towards her, she tried to call her own but it didn't respond. Fear starting to take over Hakuno as she begun to take a step backwards, trying to create distance.
But then the enemy effigy dashes towards her and slash her with it sharp hands.
Hakuno soon then fell on the ground.
The only thing the laying girl can think of is the pain she feeling on her side.
It hurts.
It hurts so much.
"Hmph, you seem to be lacking as well." Hakuno heard a sound of the distant voice.
"The time has come, with your inevitable loss, I will consider this round of preliminaries to be over."
"Farewell. I pray you'll find peace in your annihilation." The voice soon fade from distance, leaving her alone. Hearing the voice's final words. She want to disagree but she doesn't have the power to protest. All the poor girl can do is to stare at the floor.
"I think I'm going to die here." She says with a teary voice coming from her mouth. She can't help it, and she doesn't really like it either. But. What can she do? If someone can tell her what to do, then she surely appreciates it.
Suddenly, at the edge of Hakuno's now hazy vision, a number of brown colored lumps seem to rise from the ground. Hakuno surprisingly didn't notice them until now. They are already been there from the beginning.
The lumps of the bodies of an untold number of fallen Tsukimihara Academy students. The guy before her wasn't the only one to fall. All of the student made it here and died, unable to do anything.
And in a very short while, Hakuno, a girl who just wanted to seek the truth may become one of them. Her eyes are starting to close, tears she doesn't want to fall seems find it's way on her cheeks. She thinking if maybe she just close her eyes now, the teats won't fall, she did all that she could, so maybe it'd better for it to end now.
"I refuse to give up..."
Hakuno summon all of her strength left in an attempt to get back on her feet. However, as she try to move, an unbearably intense pain shoots through the poor girl entire body.
"I still refuse to give up!"
Hakuno believes that what she doing is right. She can't give up now. Even if she forced to concede defeat eventually, it'd be unforgivable to do so now. That's why she doesn't want to end it here. But even though a strong conviction she strangely feel as if something's wrong.
All of her senses grow faint. The pain running through her body has long passed her ability to endure it. She know what the damned suffer. But even so she must stand.
The drive to go on is something Hakuno do not understand. It's not like the fear of death is urging her to not give up. The girl in question just want to be at peace. Keeping that in mind, why she even trying with all of her might to get back on her feet.
She cannot figure out the reason why. Hakuno don't know why her life need to be ended. Why she even here? but the girl soon understand why, that must be the reason all along. There were those may corpses. There were those many questions. Now she can't continue without knowing.
"No!"
Now that Hakuno's spirit has been awakened, she cannot allow things to come to an end without knowing!
"Hmmm...As someone who shouldn't be here and should never participate this Holy Grail war, I can hardly ignore such overpowering doubts and determination." Hakuno soon heard a voice somewhere. Its very different than the voice she heard earlier. This one has a cool voice and a feeling of kindness at the same time.
"Questioning your own existence even as it comes to an end. You remind me of myself back in that velvet room where my wardens was ordered to kill me. But very well. I respect people who want to change the way their life was."
"I will lend you my service, and I'll look forward onto our battles together master."
A sound of breaking glass that is accompanied by a light cutting through the gloom. Hakuno manage to move her weary body and aching her head to see what's happening. She didn't notice it before, but something was slowly rising up from the floor in the middle of the room.
'That form-'
Its appearance isn't so much different from what of a human being, but something was different. Clearly so, the power emanating from it transcended that of any human, or of any enemy Hakuno faced in getting here.
An awesome power that seems as if it'd vaporize anyone it touched swirls within her body, almost against the girl's will.
"Sorry but I'm breaking through."
The man who's wearing a black suit turned around and look at me. The moment he saw Hakuno condition he send her a concerned look.
"Are you OK there master?" The boy who has a raven hair then asked. Hakuno manage to nod. Even she surprise on both his appearance and the way his calling her. Master? Hakuno is not sure whether she heard it right but regardless he smiled, knowing she doing well even after all of that. "Really? I'm glad. Showing self-restraint is difficult regardless of one's age."
"I came here in response to help a voice that is calling." Unexpectedly he sigh and turned around. " And I can't ignore it anymore so I came. But before anything else, you should know that if you keep me on your side, then you would ended up having an "unfair" life."
"But still I hope you don't mind the circumstances of that" Due to her position she couldn't tell what expression his making. But if Hakuno had to guess, she think his happy about it. " Since your the only one here I still need to confirm this."
Turning around. Hakuno soon saw his masked face once again. But not only that but also the way he smile at her. Its a smile when someone found his long lost friend. And Hakuno isn't the type of person who ever receive that kind of smile, she doesn't even know how many friends she have. But still, if smile could heal, then the one he make does make it happen.
"So tell me. Are you perhaps my master?" He asked extending his hand onto the girl who's staring at him. Hakuno notice it and break out on what she doing.
"Y-yes" Even though in embarrassment, because she got caught by the raven haired boy who's she staring with. She still manage to confidently answered it.
"I see. I hope we get along master" After he said that. Hakuno saw his hand and took it. Then he gently pulled her up, back to her feet.
"You were just shouting "why?" a moment ago. There are very few people who know the answer to that question." He told her. "Since I'm fighting along side you, I'll be helping you to find those answers you wanted."
From the hand he holding to. Hakuno felt asudden warmth and then a sharp pain, like a skin been cut by a knife. On the back of her hand, as though tattooed, is a strange symbol that look like some kind of crest.
Totally confused, Hakuno couldn't help but to alternate between staring at the mark on my hand and the person standing before me.
And then-
A noise behind the two brings Hakuno back to her senses. The two turned around, and saw that the effigy from before is still there, now in a fighting stance. Hakuno wince uncontrollably, recalling her previous defeat at its hand.
"I can take it from here. A gentleman wouldn't not let a beautiful woman to be tired. You can take a rest master." He said then summoned a dagger.
Hakuno was about to voice out her concern to him when he suddenly turn around a bit and sent her a wink. The poor girl couldn't stop herself from blushing. This is too much assault from her. She couldn't help but to think whether or not his a protagonist who max out their charm.
Hakuno soon give up on, instead she decide to juat watch on what's about to happen.
The effigy dashes toward the young man wearing black. But he easily sidestep and slash the effigy's arm. The effigy's right arm, drop to the ground, unusable from now on. He then looked at the effigy with a cocky smile.
Soon afterwards he make a hand gesture, taunting the effigy to try again. Its unknown whether or not it work against it but the effigy dash towards the boy once again. With only one arm left, the effigy make a last ditch of effort to kill the raven haired boy.
But it didn't work, the raven haired boy tumbled to his left. Then he pulled a gun from his suite. A gun that looks like a pistol against the unknown material effigy. But still Hakuno could feel the confidence coming from him. Its too much that its making you feel pressure just by looking at him.
Pointing the gun towards his enemy. He begun to shoot bullets on it, with every bullets hitting the effigy's head. Sooner the battered effigy stops moving. There's no way it still function after being effectively torn apart.
"Thank goodness it's over." Hakuno saw the same pair of colored steeled eyes looking at her, the confident demeanor from before has vanish, like it doesn't there to begin with. "You didn't get hurt during that did you?" He calmly asked.
Hakuno slowly nod her head to answer
The boy continued to talk. However, the sound of his voice doesn't quite reach Hakuno's ears. The heat coming from the mark on her hands grew in intensity during the fight and resulting pain has become unbearable and burns through her consciousness.
"The mark imprinted on your hand is your command seal. It is proof that you held dominion over a servant. You can use it to give three orders that must be obeyed. Think of them as disposable strengthening spells."
"It is also the proof of your participation in the Holy Grail War. If you lose it for some reason, you will die." Once again, she heard the other voice. Luckily Hakuno somehow manage to ignore the pain and listen to what it has to say.
"I can understand your confusion. But before I forget... Congratulation. You have endured much to make it here. Now rest for a while, you achieved your first goal."
"It was an incredibly clumsy effort to say the least, but that's what made it all more entertaining. I've had this duty for a long time, but this is the first time I've seen a master. as helpless as you."
"Nevertheless, be proud of your achievement. Your quick thinking came as. result of nerves and rashness." The unknown voice commented. During the voice comments about her, it made the girl to think the person behind that voice, she thought that its similar to a voice that sounds like of a thirty year old man. And it's really irritatingly smug.
For some reason, she can see the owner of the voice as a priest, dressed in a somber cassock.
"Oh, you are curious about my identity? I am honored, but I am insignificant. I am merely a part of the system. I am also just a guide, tasked with giving a standard message and given the personality of a prior participant."
"I am no more than words, no more than mountain you just conquered, no more than a record of the past."
'A record?' The girl thought. So if she raise any objection to this void, does it mean she won't receive any answer in return?
As if reading her mind the voice answered. "Exactly. Well this is unexpected. You have received a commendation. Something about you "having a light"."
Hakuno starting to get more confuse, she actually don't have any clue on who would say such a thing about her. But that short phrase struck her heart because, for some unknown reason, she knew the words were sincere.
And as for "I expect good things from you." It seemed like more of a command than encouragement. She though.
"Now let us commence your baptism. You have proven yourself worthy of the honor. for most, the monotony of everyday life continues on without end. Your decision to look beyond the accepted and progress mean you have earned the right to exist."
"However, you have but taken the first step. Be jubilant, young knight, for the Holy Grail war begins now!" The unknown voice declared.
Hakuno still have no idea what he's talking about.
The Holy Grail War?
The right to exist?
what is all of this about?
"That is correct. An object of great power once existed in the world. One day would grant any desire. People called it the "Holy Grail" and fought endlessly in an attempt to gain sole possession of it."
"Is that so?" Hakuno heard a voice from the raven haired boy. "Are you sure that this "Holy Grail" really grant wish? or it just capturing people just to kill each other." He questioned the voice from the sky.
"Masters who participate in this war, wouldn't waste their life on something thats not existing."
"My master beg to differ."
"She soon recovered all of her memories after this. This system you find yourself in now is an evolution of those struggles. You stand at the entrance of a deadly struggle where many magi will perish in pursuit of the Holy Grail." Assurance can be heard at the unknown voice.
"Listen, magi. Had I not bestowed upon the earth desire. You'd be merely saints capable of committing sin. Now, fight to the death. The fiery throne of heaven will only receive those with the strongest of desires."
The voice reverberates throughout this hidden chapel, as if it were the voice of God. But what do they mean by kill, magi, Holy Grail that grants wishes? These questions, and more, swirl inside Hakuno head and almost seem to carve themselves into her flesh.
"In war, a weapon is needed. That is your servant. They're the spear that pierces, the shield that protects. A legendary soul whose purpose is to clear your way to the Grail. That is the one who stands beside you."
I glance over at the young man in black standing next to me, who glance at me then look away. He's her servant...
"It seems you have decided, and with that direction as payment, I now open the gates to the Holy Grail War."
After the voice said that. The mark on the girl's hand, her command seal, once again begin to become excruciatingly painful.
It's over.
She can't take it anymore.
She reach the limits of her endurance and her mind starts to shutdown, as she lose consciousness and fell on the ground. She can vaguely hear the voice's final words.
"Now, let the Holy Grail War begin. No matter the era, deciding who is worthy through battle is the divine providence of man. Magi who have been invited here by the Moon, show me your true strength."

She was in darkness again. She remembered what happened during the preliminary of the Holy grail war. In just one day, one decision, one person make her life different. A life with both pain and happiness. Both sadness and acceptance. But just like how her life change. It only took a day for everything she have to suddenly disappeared.
That's why she doesn't want to wake up from this dream. Even though she already memorized every single thing that happened during that time. She still doesn't want to wake up on her own looping dream. It's the only thing she have right now. She can't let it to go away.
As she about to repeat the same dream. Hakuno Kishinami heard a voice. A beautiful voice humming somewhere near her. A voice she not familiar with, but at the same time, she felt a sort of connection toward that voice. If only she could wake up, she will definitely see who's the owner of that voice.
But...
But. What she have right now is the only thing keeping her alive. She doesn't want it to get taken again by someone. But is this really the way she wanted to live? Will she be content just to live in a dream. Is this really what she became of.
"Are you about to wake up?" She heard from a distance. It was the same voice that was humming earlier. She couldn't answer the voice question because she doesn't know her answer. "Its fine if you still want to sleep. It took me a while before I woken on my dreams as well."
The voice did a chuckle as it said that.
"Take your time. I'll watch over you, and maybe one day we can walk together on a green field with everyone who's close with us." Hakuno couldn't do anything but to listen on the unknown voice. It was gentle like how a mother take care of her child. It was very gentle that she couldn't help but to fall asleep once again.
Maybe.
Just one more.
She might finally wake up from her dreams as well.
Author's note
First of all, sorry if your expecting a chapter. Writing isn't easy, specially if you don't have a style you can be comfortable to. I tried to practice different writing styles and I ended up using this one. First person can be difficult to write especially on using it at a specific scenes. I started to write the actual chapter three with first person, and it took all of my idea into nothing. I can't write it using that style, so I decide to try a different one. This one look more easier than the older one, so I better change it now since there still like 2 chapters that got released.
