"Do you feel that?"
"Umm, no."
"Okay hold on," there was a pause in the room before she spoke again, "How about now?"
"Arizona I don't feel anything because you aren't touching me. Nothing is happening,"
"Well it works for me," Arizona sat up from the bed and faced Callie, "I know it sounds crazy but energy therapy really has been helping me,"
"I believe you. Its mind over matter. I just don't think it's working for me because-"
"You don't believe in it?"
"No," Callie shook her head, "Because I have nothing for it to heal."
"Ms. Perfect," Arizona glided out the bedroom, down the hall and into the kitchen.
Arizona insisted on wearing her Heelys around the house when Sofia wasn't home. She said it was liberating and Callie didn't argue it. Callie shook her head and laughed at Arizona's comment as she followed her wife into the kitchen.
"You know what I mean…" Callie took her spot next to Arizona who had already started prepping for dinner.
"I know- I've just been really excited to tell you about it and..." Arizona pressed her fingers to her knee, "My leg hurts…"
Callie turned her back towards Arizona and didn't respond. She fell to the ground, closing her eyes and reminded herself that there was no pain because there was no leg. She called for Callie but Callie didn't turn around. The water on the stove began to boil over and Arizona opened her eyes, watching as Callie flirted with another woman. The walls crumbled into ashes and floated away in the wind.
Arizona jolted up in her bed, sweat running down her face, her chest tight and lungs heavy. She quickly threw the blankets off her body and focused on where her leg would be. She took a deep breath in and slowly let it out.
It was only a dream, it was only a dream. She thought to herself as she finally brought her breathing back to a reasonable pace. She turned and looked at the empty space next to her. Arizona adjusted her pillow and laid back.
Bad dreams, bad dreams go away… She wiped the sweat from her brow. Nightmares use to be about her leg, and yes occasionally they reared their ugly heads but the ones creeping up on her recently were all about Callie.
"Calliope…" Arizona whispered to the darkness surrounding her. This time she didn't pretend she wasn't crying. She wished Callie was here with her.
