I know, I know. You want me to update Chalupa. And I will!! But today's important, it's (apparently) Helga's birthday!! And if my sources are wrong, that's okay, it can be an early/ late birthday present for her!! So bear with me for a while, okay? In the meantime, I have this little thing. It's short and not exactly my best (written in like five minutes) but hopefully you all like it.
AND HEARTS SEMICOLON
It started out as a normal day. She got up, brushed her teeth, forced a comb through her unruly pigtails. Normal. She almost managed to forget that it was her birthday, her wretched, dreadful, lonely birthday.
Her white shoes dragged along the sidewalk, kicking up dust as she trudged to school. The birds were silent, there was not the usual laughter echoing across the street. Something inside her wondered why no one else was walking to school today. The emptiness was maddening, she could hear her thoughts echoing, and she couldn't stand it. And suddenly she was in front of her classroom, flinging the door open to... nothing. The desks were gone, the students were gone, everything was gone. Helga opened her mouth to scream, but was cut off by... singing? Singing as in people singing, as in she wasn't alone anymore! She practically jumped for joy and sprinted down the hall to the source of the loud, boisterous chorus. It was coming from the girls' bathroom, which was odd because she distinctly heard male voices. She tiptoed inside.
"Hello...? Who's there?"
And she was enveloped in screaming, laughing children, grabbing her and dragging her farther in.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HELGA!!"
She was pushed towards an open stall and noticed that, for whatever reason, a small table had been set above the toilet and draped in crate paper (which was covered in "abstract-masterpieces" by her classmates). She spun around, coming face-to-face with Phoebe, who was holding a small chocolate cake.
"Happy Birthday, Helga!" she chirped, giggling. The rest of her classmates beamed at her from outside of the stall.
"Um...Phoebe?"
"Yes, Helga?"
"Why in God's name would you throw me a party in the bathroom?"
"Well... the classroom's being re-painted later today, remember? And the lunchladies wouldn't let us use their cafeteria, they said we'd ruin the sanctity of their pre-lunch meditation."
"So... what now?"
It was then that Harold decided "what now" by pushing Stinky, who bumped into Arnold, who was suspiciously close to Lila, who both went flying into Phoebe, who accidentally pushed the cake into Helga's face, knocking her onto the table, which broke and left her sitting in the toilet, dripping dirty water and chocolate icing. She glared around at all of them, licked her lips, and...
Laughed. She threw her head back and laughed so hard that tears leaked from beneath her eyelids and left clear trails on her frosting-stained cheeks. And one by one, her friends laughed too. That is, until Helga came to her senses and gave Harold three black eyes, don't even ask how.
