Freshman year
Too bright.. too early..
Ugh why must society punish teens and make them wake up at such a godforsaken hour?
Our main character woke up to meet the day. Although if there was a witness to this they would have sworn the undead had risen.
Jeans, shirt, and four pieces of toast later, the "zombie" skated off to school. Stepping outside, the wind blew into the teen's lazy mop of a hairstyle.
The new freshman wasn't really phased at going to Middleton high. Even if it was the first day, the building looked just like the junior high, just larger. Drifting through the familiar streets of Middleton on skateboard, the buildings became a blur. Playing music while skating made the trip even shorter. Nirvana, foo fighters, and ACDC were good bands to start the day. When finally arriving at the destination, a sigh and a look of reluctance passed across the teenager's brown eyes.
Ugh school, how I dread thee.
Suddenly, a voice rang out over the music in the earbuds: "Kris!"
Exhaling, Kris saw the familiar faces of friends. The Mowry twins and Teresa Sorayama. Teresa, had short brown hair and glasses. The Mory twins, Sadie and Dylan, had different styles. Sadie had long black hair, an orange peasant top, and the latest club banana pants. Dylan had brown hair, glasses, striped shirt and an oversized beanie.
Sadie made excitable noises and was jumping up and down.
Well, at least one person was excited for school.
Pulling the earbuds out, Kris waved as they all walked over towards the front entrance.
"Hey Kris"
"Hey Dylan, sup' bro?" Kris said as they did their signature handshake. Dylan was fourteen like the rest of them, but the nerdy teen had skipped a grade in middle school when "the system" realized he was intelligent. This was his sophomore year.
Abruptly, Sadie asked
"Kris! Kris! Don't my new faux leather pants make me look fabulous?"
Kris looked at Dylan's twin sister.
"Really Sadie, new clothes?"
The girl being questioned looked down at her pants
"What's wrong with them?"
"Nothing, just… didn't you get like a bunch of stuff the other day?"
"Of course I did, you know how my mom's designers are. Besides, fashion is my OTP!"
Confused Kris turned to Sadie's twin.
The guy just shook his head and said
"She thinks OTP means one true passion…"
Kris sighed. Leave it to Sadie to mess up fandom references.
Leave the geeking out to the professionals.
Kris directed attention to their other friend, Teresa.
"Had to get new glasses Teresa?" Teresa pushed up her thick, light blue frames subconsciously.
"Yes, my prescription is stronger now. I'm surprised you are not wearing yours." Kris shrugged, and said,
"I've started wearing contacts over the summer, so might as well." Sadie hugged them all enthusiastically.
"Aren't you guys excited? First day of high school and the rest of our lives!"
Teresa nodded "Anything is possible. I have to say I'm looking forward to more challenging math classes."
"Yeah, and it's a bigger campus too." Dylan said.
"Oh and there's more people to hang out with!" Sadie squealed.
Kris gave an eye roll "Bigger school? Harder math classes? More people?"
They all nodded. Deadpanning, Kris, ever the pessimist, replied.
"Joy."
Finding your locker was easy, getting the piece of crud to open was another story.
Let's hope I can open it later.
Putting all the books in and shutting the locker, the Kris headed to homeroom.
Walking into homeroom, Kris narrowly missed the bell for homeroom. At the front of the classroom, there was a tall, angry, and slightly intimidating male teacher.
he would be more intimidating if he didn't have sagging jowls and a receding hairline.
"Good afternoon class. As your teacher Ms. Sparks is on long service leave, and we don't seem to have ENOUGH FOR A GODDAMN REPLACEMENT, I will be your homeroom teacher for the remainder of the year. I'm your Principal Mr. Barkin." , he said, while hitting the chalkboard for emphasis.
As he was talking, a girl tried to slip into class undetected. She landed in the seat next to Kris
Kris glanced at the girl, she was shorter than most girls, and definitely curvier. Though her style was all her own: black short haircut with her hair having two strands longer and dyed red. This reflected her total look: Black nails, thick eyeliner, painted lips, black skirt, white shirt, red tie, all in all a pretty cool getup.
Lucky that teacher missed you
The teacher, whom written his name as Mr. Barkin approached the girl.
"Late on the first day of school?!" the principle bellowed
Whoops spoke too soon…
"He he, sorry Mr. Barkin."
"This is no laughing matter. I hope for your sake this doesn't become a daily occurrence."
The man then shouted "I am your principle Mr. Barkin. You will all arrive here at 8 hundred hours on time every day or else."
Who shoved a pole up his …
"Sally Paterson!"
"Here."
…
"David Santos" a hand raised up
"Here"
"Johnnie Senior"…
"Johnnie Senior" The girl sitting next to Kris pulled out her earbud that she was trying to hide and said
"Mr. Barkin Sir, I like to go by …"
"I don't care if you like to go by Pansy ass, I read what's on the roster."
Johnnie rolled her eyes "Here."
"I got my eye on you Senior." Barkin threatened
"Mad dog" Barkin (as Kris had just dubbed the principal) scowled, causing his face to emphasize his sagging face making him look like a bulldog.
"I guess the mad bulldog is our mascot for a reason" Kris unintentionally muttered aloud.
A girl snickered. Apparently, Kris had muttered that phrase loud enough for Johnnie to hear.
"Nice one, Grungey boy." Kris laughed at the reference to the nirvana shirt
"Thanks Pansy Ass" they both tried to not laugh from that one.
The whole class was getting a little loud.
"Quiet! I am going to get through the roll and then you can have all your nice fuzzy chit chat. Capuche?!"
They all shut up. Mr Barkin continued.
"Kristine… Oh no…" Kris raised a hand, and responded
"Here."
