Josh stared out of the window of the lodge kitchen. To think that just last year his sister, Beth, had stood here, gazing out the window probably lost in one of her daydreams.
"And you were passed out in that chair." Dr Hill said as he walked in from the main area. "Another of your binges, wasn't it?" Dr. Hill clicked his tongue. "Maybe if you hadn't been drinking, well..." Dr. Hill gestured to the rest of the room. "This wouldn't have happened."
Josh grabbed his head and shook it, trying to make the hallucination go away.
"What's the matter?" Dr. Hill approached him. "Still can't face the truth?"
Josh closed his eyes and pictured the one thing that always seemed to calm him down.
Sam.
Her blonde hair, the scent of her strawberry shampoo, her radiant smile.
"You've replaced us." A unison of voices came from behind him. "No! No! No!" Josh started to hyperventilate. "Remember when he would imagine us, Sis?" Hannah said to her sister.
"Yeah, that day at the beach. Remember the sun was shining." Beth trailed off. "Sun isn't shining any more though." Hannah said sadly.
"Know why?" She asked Josh.
"Because you're both gone. There's never any sunshine anymore." Josh mumbled. "Oh, how sweet..." Beth said. "Actually, the sun doesn't shine anymore because we're dead! You killed us, Josh!" Hannah and Beth both started to decompose and walk slowly toward Josh.
"Josh..." They muttered holding their hands out. "Join us, Josh. Bring back the sun."
Josh looked away from his horrifying sisters and started to lose it bad. "Go away. Go away. Go away." He muttered over and over again. "We can't go away! We're stuck here because of you!" The twins shrieked at once.
Josh waited for their bony fingers to grab him and tear him apart. To drag him down into the darkness. But it never came. Instead a gentle, warm hand touched his shoulder and Josh opened his eyes to see HIM.
HE always wore a mask that looked like some kinda hillbilly clown and wore janitor clothes. Josh sighed. When he was with HIM, he was safe from them.
"Why don't we start setting up the surprise?"
HE said as HE guided Josh out the door toward the shed, where he would fake his death.
To punish Chris and Ashley.
"That's right," He said soothingly. "If Chris hadn't started that game with you, you could have helped your sisters and Ashley, well, she went along with the prank. Knowing she could have been the one getting pranked instead." Josh nodded slowly as he took one last look at the lodge before following the path to the shed.
The lodge used to feel like a second home to him where he could forget his problems and enjoy life and the sunshine.
But not anymore.
