She found that he was so like his favorite weapon, seemingly harmless yet dangerous beyond comparison. And despite her awesome strength and tactical mind, she could find no way to escape him. She was drowning in the black substance that was his essence; she knew no way out, and even so she concluded that despite her headstrong tendencies and the protests of her still wounded heart, she didn't want to be free.
His inane smile and tactless comments pushed her over the edge more than anyone else, but he managed to always slip away from her real anger, sliding left and right and up and down and slowly soaking in until she gave up and turned the page.
He had stained her soul.
She knew, with each page turned, the inkblots of his presence became larger until they filled up the book of her life. No longer was she just pink and green and soft cream, she gained pitch black and paper white.
Eventually she stopped resisting and let down her defenses, and the stain encompassed all.
