It wasn't easy being the disaster daughter of the Yagami household.

With Light being a genius and Sayu being her perfect, sweet teenage self, Lux's teenage years looked like a train wreck.

Although Lux was a couple years older than Light, she definitely hadn't matured as quickly or been as adamant about schoolwork. When Light was studying, Lux was playing video games or sleeping. Light's idea of a fun night out was going to a cafe and people-watching where Lux's was going to a party and coming home so trashed she would throw up in the kitchen sink.

Yes, Lux's teenage years had not been formidable ones. A straight-C student, her parents hadn't had much hope for her. That was until she had ranked in the top five in the nation-wide exams. Lux could still see the expressions of bewilderment in her parents' faces when she showed them the results.

That had been a mistake. If only Lux had a time machine to undo that horrible decision...

After she had shown her results to her parents, they'd realized Lux actually had some mental capabilities and tried desperately to get her to apply herself during her final year of high school.

No dice.

Lux had felt so much pressure from her parents that she had started smoking pot at her friends' houses. That was a real treat for everyone when her dad found a bag of rolled joints in her room. Lux had been grounded until the end of the school year.

A small smile graced Lux's lips as she placed a family photo back on a shelf. It was an unfortunate photograph of the Yagami family at the beach about four years ago. Despite the extreme sunburns every family member had acquired, everyone looked cheerful.

Lux sighed and flopped down on the couch, hastily picking up the remote and flipping through the channels.

It was crazy to believe she was back living at home.

Lux wasn't a bum or anything. She was just staying at home until her apartment was finished being fumigated. After that, Lux could go back to living like an adult; going to school, working, the usual...

Despite Lux's mediocre grades in high school, she had managed to get into a local university and was currently majoring in Criminal Justice. Needless to say, her dad was extremely happy with her choice of future career. In fact, he was so encouraging that he had gotten Lux a slightly underpaid internship in the police station. Sadly, all it consisted of was sitting at a desk, playing secretary for eight hours a day.

The front door suddenly slammed shut causing Lux to jump.

"Don't do that you jerk!" she yelled from her spot on the couch.

Light walked into the living room, a smirk on his face. "I'm sorry Lux." He sat down on the couch next to her. "Maybe you should try being more of an adult," he said, a joking lilt to his voice.

Lux snorted. "Please, Light," she said as she ruffled his hair. "I've done more adult things than your immature mind could only dream of."

Light's expression of amusement turned to disgust. "I don't want to think about that," he said as he stood up. "I've got homework to do." With that, Light picked up his backpack and headed up stairs to his room.

Lux shrugged and went back to watching television.

So this was the short beginning of my Death Note story... I honestly don't know where I'm going with this. It'll be a romance of course ;).

But my predicament is with who. It could be with L (I mean, who doesn't love L?), it could be with Matsuda (he's just so cute!), or it even could be with Ryuk! (I'm not that twisted. I just think it could be an interesting story.)
