Freedom
What if Bobby had killed the gar in the arena while fighting for his freedom on Eelong?
Prologue
...And in the heat of the moment, I took the three-bladed knife of tang claws and slit the gar's neck.
The klees who had bet on my victory cheered - but their noise faded into the background, unimportant. I stared into the unblinking eyes of the human I'd just killed. What had I done? I had killed another human being, even if the klees here didn't view gars as more than animals. But they could speak, they were intelligent - and I'd killed one of them.
The klee that masked Saint Dane's form approached me with that telltale smirk, his blue eyes bright with mischief. "Look what you've done, Pendragon," he whispered. "You've gained your freedom, but at what cost..?"
I stood there with the bloody weapon in my hand, unable to react, unable to process what I'd done. Had I really been fooling himself this whole time? I wasn't worthy to be a Traveler.
Saint Dane grabbed my wrist and tugged me off. To where, I didn't know - did I even care? The other klees didn't pay much notice - their councilor Timber had freed the gar that I was.
If only I'd actually found my freedom.
Please tell me what you think! Expect more in the future.
