"Nova, I can't go with you."
"What about our life together?" Nova asked, stepping closer toward him. "Our dream?"
"I'm a dwarf, Nova. I belong in the mines." Dreamy's voice was rough from the tears he was trying to hold back. "You belong with the fairies. That's never going to change."
"Dreamy, you control what changes in your life. Never let yourself forget, your special." The love in her voice and the touch of her hand as it swept gently across his cheek made Dreamy weak. He almost lost it completely. But somehow, he managed to keep it together.
"Why? What makes us different from any other dwarf and fairy out there?"
Nova's eyes shimmered in the magical moonlight. "Our love."
"I don't think it's love," said Dreamy. It took everything he had to make his words sound convincing. "It's a dream. We need to put it away."
"You talked to the blue fairy." Nova said shortly, folding her arms across her chest, her pain turning to anger.
"No one can say what we get to be. What if we rewrite the stars?" Nova looked out at the view before them, the open sea, the fireflies, the lights of the village and the kingdom beyond. Her gaze turned back to Dreamy. "The world could be ours."
A smile finally broke the tight line of his lips as he stepped forward, taking her outstretched hand in his own and giving it a gentle squeeze. "We could say you were the one I was meant to find." His voice was an almost inaudible whisper so as not to be overcome with the emotions threatening to spill over.
"I love you Dreamy," said Nova, stepping closer toward him. The faces were inches apart.
"I love you Nova." Dreamy leaned closed still, closing the gap between them and kissing her lips. "So let's change the world to be ours."
"Let's rewrite the stars." Nova squeezed his hand, the shimmering light of love returned to her eyes. "Let's run away and see the world."
The glimmer of love and promise of new adventures, and a life, and a future together shining brightly in their eyes, Dreamy and Nova stood on the hill, looking at the world they would explore together.
