Author's Beginning Notes: Well, it's been a while since I've written any JL-oriented fanworks. (I've been distracted by other fandoms...) But, I'm starting again with a...JL poem? (I recall once upon a time swearing never to do a poem for fanfiction...) Well, might as well blame it on WingedSpartan and her poetry; she inspired me. Anyway, this poem's very abstract and meant to for critical anaylysis; but I will let you know that the Dragon is J'onn, and the Bat is so obviously the Dark Knight. Please, remember to leave a review; I always appreciate feedback. I hope you enjoy the poem.

"Of Mars and Earth"

The Dragon cries.

Water falls down and down, falling away from the pools of red, his eyes...

His lithe tail curls around the rock, intertwining with the chain, the chain of marbled fire, the fire...

Green flesh stretched taut across bones of black, bones that crackle and twist restlessly, restlessly...

In the cave, the Dragon waits, weeping on and on, never running dry, never...

The cold hard rocks reflect, reflecting...

They are a mirror to a past that swore never to die, swearing upon a forsaken roar fading among the crimson sands, on Mars...

A past of white and black thieves in the night, always stealing...

A past of beloved shades of green, always screaming...

The cavernous walls echo with the Dragon's hissing and growling intermingling with the sobbing, the sobbing...

All tremble before his grief, writhing in agony, agony that is so purely refined, it is Hell's masterpiece, its masterpiece...

The Bat hears.

On wings of fear, he glides effortlessly for the Dragon, he flies...

Wind rushing through fur, fur of darkness with streaks of red, looking as if someone's fingers had clawed through, torn through...

Perching above, the Bat always needs his distance, his shield...

Yet he lowers his guard, taking one look into those pleading eyes, eyes that cry so plaintively and yet have traces of madness lurking beneath, ever lurking...

Even from on high, the tears rain upon him, raining in a heavy torrent of glowing pearls, glowing...

That chain of marbled fire, its flames dancing in the Bat's pale eyes, hypnotizing him, ball-room dancing...

Although forever Earthly-bound, the Bat can feel the Dragon's torment as if it were his own, as if they were one and the same, no different...

This great beast is his friend, the one who walks the path of despair alongside him, like a shadow...

Their path is treacherous, tongues of flame edging the road, blankets of glass choking the path, choking...

Beating heart, oh his beating heart, it beats to one rhythm, one rhythm shared between the two burned travellers, forever bound...

"Why do you cry, my shadowed partner," said the Bat to the Dragon.

"...They are gone," he simply intoned.

"They are gone," whispered the Bat in an echo for his friend and himself.

"...Then why do you wait, sir Dragon?"

In the end, there was nothing but a scream.

Author's Ending Notes: O.K., I officialy freaked myself out with this poem. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed that fanwork, and please remember to leave a review.
