Progress

Ian was sitting beside Don in their bed. The time off had turned out to be useful in their house hunting. It wasn't long into their looking that the house fell into their laps. Don had called Ian and they had bought it sight unseen. In no time at all the house was full of their things and gifts from their friends.

"Don, are you happy?" Ian asked kissing his way down his lover's neck.

"Am I happy? How about I show you how happy I am." Don replied flipping his lover over.

The long night of lovemaking that followed insured them both that their love for each other was still strong and not just the physical aspect either.

"Ian, is something wrong?" Don asked as he was getting something to drink the next morning.

"No, its…" He started, then paused.

"We have been together for over a year now." Ian's voice sounded strange even to him.

"Are you asking if I want to end this?" The look that passed between them brought light to the truth.

"You are." Don wasn't sure if he was upset or happy with Ian.

"Ian, I love you. I don't say it enough I know but I do. Don't ever think I don't. I want to stay with you here in our home. In the love that we have for each other.

Ian didn't know how to respond. Since he had started dating Don being open and honest had come more and more easily to him but he was still a little uncomfortable with talking about his feelings especially with Don.

"Did you really think I wanted to move on without you? Or that I would kick you out of our home?"

"I have known you for years, Don. You're not normally with the same person for more than a month. After the month was up I kept thinking how lucky I was to have found you. To have your love. Then after the year… I want to make sure where we stand."

Don had felt the same thing in the past when he had been with Robin. Now that the table was turned he took the time to find the right words to put his lover's mind at easy.

"Ian, I will admit in the past I was the kind of man to have sex and run. I don't know what changed what it was/is about you that changed me but it's you that has. Ian the only place that I want to run is into your arms each night. The only place I want to be is with you. Ian, I'm not going anywhere unless you want me too."

"Some might call that progress" Ian smiled from his seat across from him.

"Depends on who you ask." Don told him raising his hand to his lover's face and giving him a quick kiss before returning to his breakfast.
