I promise to update Nightmares Under Purple Skies and Over Punishment sometime in the next month! Now let's see if I actually do it...
I wrote this almost a year ago. It's very short, I know. I don't consider it AU because I'm pretty sure Helena would have as little of a problem lying to make herself look better as she did stealing her mother's most prized possession.
"Your mother is dying!" he yelled.
"If she were, she wouldn't have sent you!" Helena cried. "And, even if it were true, why should I go back to see her one more time? It's been nearly a decade since I left! She hasn't been looking for nine years, because I know I'm not that well hidden, here! If she didn't care enough to look for me when I was thirteen, she can bear not seeing me now!"
"She cared. She did. She knew you were alright. She decided to let you be," the Baron said softly, trying to calm down despite Helena's shouting. Then, in a bad imitation of Rowena's voice, he added, "'If she wants to run off and behave like an infant, then I'll let her. She's quite old and well prepared enough to fend for herself. If she doesn't come back soon, I'll know I was a good mother.' She didn't want you to come back because it meant you were getting by on your own and you didn't need her help."
"How was she to know I hadn't been eaten by a manticore?"
"She wouldn't tell me how, but she knew you were alive. Most mothers would panic if their thirteen year-old daughter moved out of home without a decent husband, but she didn't seem worried at all."
Helena was shocked that her mother had no broadcast her thievery to the world. Not even the Baron knew.
"She really wants to see you, Helena—"
"No."
"For your ailing mother—"
"No."
"For me?" he tried desperately.
"GET OUT!" she yelled, finally losing her temper completely. "Leave here and never come back! And don't tell anyone where you found me!"
As soon as she shut her mouth, she regretted shouting. A manic, psychotic look appeared in the Baron's eyes. She'd been here, before. But this time, her only escape was blocked the wall of her wooden cabin. She had nowhere to run. As soon as she realized what she had done, she looked up at the sky and began praying. She couldn't escape, this time, and she knew it.
Her mother wasn't the only one keeping secrets. She'd been engaged to the Baron, once, for years. She'd finally left when she had ended up running from him, afraid for her life is she was caught.
The next thing she knew, her back was against her cabin door with his dagger against her chest. His face wore a terrifying glare. She didn't stop praying.
"…Hallowed be thy name—"
"You shouldn't have said that, Sweetie!" he growled.
"—Thy will be done—" she continued.
That was as far as she got before she couldn't do anything but scream. Her cry only lasted for a fraction of a second before the dagger pierced her heart.
As soon as the screech had left her lips, the Baron snapped out of it. He couldn't believe what he had done. The dagger had been removed from Helena's body only seconds after being driven through her flesh.
Before she was even completely gone, he had slit his own throat.

Yes, I know the King James Version of the Bible wasn't translated until more than six hundred years after this occurred. It was easier to put this version of the Lord's Prayer than it was to find the period version, which wouldn't be in English.
