he was worse than a devil.

Sonic was no saint, not by any means. The act of goodness wasn't for him - it didn't click within his twisted little mind, didn't really appeal to him and pique his interest. Oh no, living the life of the straight and narrow wasn't for him; it was chaos that drew him in, had him hooked like an exotic drug. He loved the taste of the sin on his tongue, the thrill of risks surging through his body, egging him on towards a sick and blinding satisfaction or a fiery downfall.

And God, this boy was leading him towards the latter.

Hot-headed and barely even human; he was like Sonic, in a way. Rash, too sure of themselves, ego crashing when the going got too tough and crashing hard. That toaster's age provided a thinly-veiled excuse for his behavior; Sonic's did not. But their similarities didn't matter; it was who they were that did.

Sonic: villain, demon.

Genos: hero, angel.

How the fuck they even managed to get pass the set-in-stone mindset of "You're in the way. Die." was a complete mystery to Sonic. He could have killed him, extinguished whatever the hell kept that cyborg alive. It could've been the other way around, but it wasn't. It was a whole different direction that he never expected and he decided to take it, to see what would happen if he did this and that. And soon, the ninja ran a little too fast and went a little too far down that unknown path, and he slipped and tumbled into something he should have never discovered – love.

And if chaos was an exotic drug that gave Speed of Sound Sonic that high of his life, then love was the drug that fucked him up badly, fried his mind and thoughts and emotions; a drug that would kill him if he wasn't careful, and yet he wanted more, and yet he still took that risk.

So here he was, a fast-acting parasite that took over that blond's brain, taking hold of him and refusing to let go. Keeping him here and keeping him there, never too far but never quite close. The angel performed mirabilia; the demon was too afraid to ruin it.

He knew that cyborg fell for him, fell from the wondrous glory of heaven and crash-landed into the little hellhole that Sonic resided in. He knew that he had, somehow, became everything this boy stood for, became of equal status to the very man he worshipped as a god. He was the sun, moon, Earth, the whole damn universe. The ground that Genos walked on and the very air he breathed. Everything - he had became everything. He knew damn well he was intertwined with Genos for eternity when the sound of "I love you" rattled his core, shook up who he was.

And yet, Sonic wouldn't return those words. They were too strong, too committing, too final. The ninja needed to be sure that he wouldn't enter this kid's life and leave without a trace the next. He needed to be sure that he could say it and mean it, not throwing those words around like it was a quota he had to meet, and obligation he had to fulfill. He has done too much, gave too much, took too much; he refused to ruin it all on the basis of his own uncertainties.

No, he won't say those words.

not until he resembled something like an angel.
