Note: This is my first attempt at a Crossover. I am sorry, if something is wrong.
Disclaimer: I neither own Harry Potter or Twilight, but I would have loved to!
July 1, 1995.
Renee drove Bella to the Airport. Bella was wearing a sleeveless white shirt and ink blue jeans. It was quite hot in Phoenix and she loved it the way it was. But she was now on her way to Forks, a small town in Northwest Washington. She was born in Forks but when she was only a few months old, Renee got separated from Charlie, Bella's dad and came to live in Phoenix. Bella had spent a month with her Dad every year during summer until she was Eleven. Charlie had come down to Phoenix for past three summers to spend time with Bella because she was attending some boarding school and summer holidays was the only time she got to spend with Renee as well.
"Bella, you don't have to do this." Renee looked at Bella sadly.
"Mom, it's okay. I want to go. I want to spend some time with Dad this summer."
"Tell Charlie I said Hi."
"I will."
"I'll see you soon," she insisted. "You can come home whenever you want - I'll come right back as soon as you need me."
Bella knew she would. Renee recently married Phil, but Bella had known him for over an year. He was a nice man and he loved her Mother and that's what matters. Renee was going to travel with Phil for some baseball league. She will want to be with Bella if she stayed in Phoenix this summer. And Bella did not want to spoil her time with Phil. So she decided that she'll spend the summer with Charlie instead. But Bella knew she will dread her decision as soon as she sets foot in Forks. She detested that place. Forks was always cloudy and it rains in this town more than anywhere else in America.
Bella waved at Renee before getting on the plane. Only two months, after which I will be back home. Back to Hogwarts, she said to herself. She just completed her Fourth year in Hogwarts. She missed her school and friends already. She belonged to the Gryffindor house. She remembered her common room where she spends time with her best friend, Emily McMillan. She used to spend time with the Weasleys as well as they were distant relations of Emily. And then she remembered how the last term ended. Harry was mysteriously chosen as the Fourth Champion in the "Triwizard" Tournament held in Hogwarts. Cedric Diggory died during the Final task. And rumor was that Voldemort killed him. As much as she want to believe that it was not true, she trusted Harry. He would never lie for fame. She sighed thinking about what would happen to all of them, now that Voldemort was back. People will again fear his name, she thought. Since she was a Muggleborn and did not witness his terrible actions last time she never felt scared to say his name. She was not brave. She just did not understand how he could be so powerful.
She was immersed in thoughts about Hogwarts that she did not notice that she reached Seattle. She switched planes to Port Angles and then Forks was an hour's drive away. Charlie was quite happy when Bella told him that she'll be visiting him this year. He wasn't aware that Bella was a Witch. He just thought she attended a normal Boarding School. Although it doesn't make any difference. She wasn't allowed to do magic outside school till she becomes a Major. But it was awkward with Charlie as neither of them talk much. It was an effort for both of them.
When she landed in Port Angles, it was raining. Bella would have been surprised if it was not. Charlie was already waiting for her with his cruiser. He was the Police Chief Swan for the people of Forks. She had asked for a car of her own while she was at Forks, so that she doesn't have to travel in a car with red and blue lights on the top.
Charlie gave her an awkward One-armed hug. "It's good to see you, Bells," he said, smiling as he automatically caught and steadied her. "You haven't changed much. How's Renee?"
"Mom's fine. It's good to see you, too, Dad." She had only two bags. Most of her Arizona clothes won't suit for Washington. And wearing cloaks was out of question. Renee and Bella had pooled their resources to supplement her winter wardrobe, but it was still scanty. It all fit easily into the trunk of the cruiser. She did not carry any of her school stuff as she would be visiting Phoenix before leaving to Hogwarts. She planned to leave from Forks in the last week of August because she had to get her supplies for the year from Diagon Alley.
Charlie interrupted her thoughts. "I found a car for you. Quite cheap. It's an old model but has new engine. I kind of already bought it for you. As a homecoming gift."
"You didn't need to do that, Dad. I was going to buy myself a car."
"I don't mind. I want you to be happy here." He was looking ahead at the road when he said this.
Charlie wasn't comfortable with expressing his emotions out loud. She must have inherited that from him. So she was also looking straight ahead as she responded.
"That's really nice, Dad. Thanks. I really appreciate it."
"Well, now, you're welcome," he mumbled, embarrassed.
They exchanged a few more comments on the weather, which was wet, and that was pretty much it for Conversation. They stared out of the windows in silence. It was beautiful, of course. Everything was green: the trees, their trunks covered with moss, their branches hanging with a canopy of it, the ground covered with ferns. Even the air filtered down greenly through the leaves. It was too green - an alien planet.
Eventually they reached Charlie's home. He still lived in the small, two-bedroom house that he'd bought with her mother in the early days of their marriage. There, parked on the street in front of the house, was her new - well, new to her truck, a faded red colored one. To her intense surprise, she loved it.
"Wow, Dad, I love it! Thanks!"
"I'm glad you like it," Charlie said gruffly, embarrassed again.
It took only one trip to get all her stuff upstairs. She got the west bedroom that faced out over the front yard. The wooden floor, the light blue walls, the peaked ceiling, the yellowed lace curtains around the window - these were all a part of her childhood. The only changes Charlie had ever made were switching the crib for a bed and adding a desk as she grew. The desk now held a secondhand computer, with the phone line for the modem stapled along the floor to the nearest phone jack. This was a stipulation from her mother, so that they could stay in touch easily. Bella couldn't afford to send her messages by owl since she will be with Phil from now on. She missed her owl, Irvin. She used to be Bella's only link to the magic world when she was in summer holidays. But she couldn't risk bringing Irvin to Forks with her. So she left her under the care of Emily. Oh, I miss Emily. I miss Hogwarts.
Charlie had enrolled her for Summer school. Else she would have to be alone, since he would be working in the mornings. She didn't mind attending school. It's been four years since she studied anything normal. It might be a nice change. And she also need not put too much effort since Hogwarts was in no way considering these classes for extra credit. Best of all she didn't have to spend time alone at Charlie's.
But the only problem was most of the school would have enrolled for these Summer classes. Because there was simply nothing else to do in Forks. It scared Bella because she was not comfortable with too many people and she would be a stranger among them, a freak probably. But she was too tired to worry about it then. She quickly brushed her teeth, bathed and went to bed.
