The two lovers were young and naïve. Their families disapproved of their relationship, but always kept these thoughts to themselves. However, when they became married, both families cut them off and refused to speak to or of them ever again.

However, their love remained pure even when he was drafted into the Army to fight in the war. She promised to always be true to him and await his return.

Unfortunately, the war had other plans.

His plane was shot down. They never found his remains.

For months, she did not know what had happened to him.

With no friends or family to turn to, the grief became too much to bear and she threw herself off a bridge.

For bravely serving his country and for remaining truthful, he was admitted into the Kingdom of Heaven. Her suicide was not looked upon as highly.

She was damned for all eternity – doomed to always float in a black river of nothingness – a void.

He could never be happy without his darling – and demanded that God send him down to the depths of Hell as well so he could join his lover forever.

The Lord, reluctantly, granted his wish. The two lovers were reunited – both forever forced to spend life in a white, formless shape floating endlessly in the black River of Emptiness. As Happiness cannot exist in Hell, both were very sad. Yet their love still shone brightly – even in the most Hopeless of Places.

Moved by this, God had pity on the two and sent them a small, sparkling white ball. This ball was formed from the very clouds of heaven – which meant that it was everything good and happy. The two lovers found that, even in the black river, they could still be happy (if only for a moment) if they shared this ball between the two of them. He would have it and then he would pass it to her. In this way, the two lovers regained their joy – every time they touched the ball.

Bloop. Bloop. Bloop…
