Ed sat in the chair his elbows propped on the desk. He rested his face in his hands and stared at the window. His eyes were unfocused and hazy as his thoughts tumbled and swirled in his head quicker than he had time to analyze them. He knew that if he wanted to he could break his trance but why would he want to do that? Where he was it was quiet and peaceful so unlike most of his life.

BUZZ BUZZ BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Ed's eyes narrowed as it tracked the small fly watching it land in front of him on the desk rubbing its small legs together and flex its wings back somewhat. It walked to the edge of the desk before taking flight into the air directly into the window pane. It slammed against the glass and fell to the sill. It stood back up only to fly to the glass and smash against it repeatedly. Edward furrowed his brow at the small insects actions. Curiously Ed stood and opened the top half of the window slightly and sat back down in his chair. The fly continued to bump into the glass. Edward drummed his metal fingers against the desk as he observed the fly. His eyes scanned from the closed portion of the window to the open part slightly confused.

Freedom was mere inches away from the small creature yet it continued to exhibit a destructive behavior that would probably lead to it's demise. Edwards stomach churned uncomfortably as his throat went dry. The solution was so clear, it was right there but the fly didn't see it.

"Isn't that how it always is though?" Ed asked aloud. "The answers seem so clear to everyone else except for the person who's dealing with the situation. Is the solution to our problem clear to everyone else except us?"

The door to the room opened and distantly Ed heard the heavy thud and creak that was his little brother.

"Are you ready brother?" Al asked. Ed didn't answer as his thoughts ran rabid through out his mind unceasing.

"Will our behavior be self destructive and end in our demise?" Ed whispered to himself his voice strained and cracking.

"What did you say?" Al asked walking closer to his brother. Edward sighed and closed his eyes standing as he did so. He shook his head slowly. "What were you doing in here anyways?" He heard his younger brother ask. Ed walked past Al his coat in hand.

"Nothing Al, just staring at a fly is all." He said walking out of the room. Al walked over to the window and watched the insect run along the window sill fly up and slam into the window. Al lifted the window up and watched the creature fly off.
