I do not own pokemon or any related properties, I do however own the original characters of Nox, Lux, Amara, and Gaia.
Pokémon: Eclipse
Season 1:
The Oath of the Tapu
Episode 1:
Day and Night, Fire and Water
"Nox…"
"NooOOOoox..."
"NOX! Wake up!" Nox Solluna awoke with a start at the sound of his twin sister's voice. Causing him to bolt upright and bang his head on the ceiling. How Lux convinced him that he should sleep on the top bunk in a low ceiling room was beyond him; for the only thoughts going through his head was strangling his giggling twin.
"G-Good, you're up," Lux said as she regained control of her laughter. She brushed aside some of her long blonde hair out of her vivid green eyes. Since she took her hair out of her usual ponytail at night, Nox knew that she hadn't been awake for long before deciding to wake him up.
"Why'd you wake me?" Nox asked groggily as he laid back down with a flop. He saw Lux out of the corner of his eyes hopping down from his elevated bed and walk over to the closet to grab some clean cloths.
"You really don't remember?" Nox groaned at his sister's unhelpful reply. Nox was never a morning person. His sister however, always had so much energy that it was any wonder she can fall asleep at all.
"Should I remember?" Nox said as he reluctantly got out of bed.
"I think one should be able to remember their own birthday silly," Lux said teasingly as she selected her clothing of choice before heading towards the adjoining bathroom, "Especially since we both turn twelve today!"
"That's right, we get our first Pokémon today, don't we?" Nox said calmly. He always had a strong sense of ennui, so he never really got excited about anything. Besides, Lux had enough enthusiasm for the both of them and then some.
"Yea! I can't wait to get my popplio!" Lux cheered as she reemerged from the bathroom out of her pajamas and wearing a green skirt with a white blouse, green sneakers and with her hair in her signature ponytail, "Which one are you getting, brother?"
"Haven't decided," Nox said truthfully as he gathered up his clothing, a pair of blue denim shorts, a black tee shirt and black running shoes, "Go on downstairs, I'll catch up,"
"Don't wait too long brother!" Lux said as she opened the door, "Don't want to miss out on a minute of this great da-ya!"
Lux had walked through the threshold without looking and tripped over Amara, her and Nox' adopted little sister.
"Amara! You alright?" Lux asked concernedly as she helped Amara stand back up. Eight-year-old Amara was dressed in a blue tee shirt and jeans, and wore a large straw hat that covered her face quite well.
"I'm fine," Amara said as she dusted herself off.
"Good, because I don't need Drampa to use Dragon breath on me again," Lux said as she looked up and down the hall in search of the Normal/Dragon type Pokémon that was overprotective of Amara.
"Happy birthday!" Amara said with a cheer and a hop to Lux and Nox.
"Thanks sis," Lux said while giving her sister a hug.
"Yea, thank you Amara," Nox added as he finished tying his shoes.
"Well, come on Nox, let's hurry and go meet our Pokémon!" Lux said as she grabbed Nox, who was still fastening his belt, and dragged him down the stairs.
A few minutes later…
Nox calmly poured himself a bowl of Pika-puff cereal mixed with oran berry's as his sister Lux scarfed down her own breakfast. Gaia Solluna, their mother and Amara's foster mom, had insisted that they eat right as Lux was about to drag Nox out the front door.
"Slow down or you'll choke dear," Gaia insisted as Lux gulped down her orange juice, "Your Pokémon isn't going anywhere,"
"Sorry Mom, I'm just so excited," Lux admitted as she finished the last of her toast, "Okay, come on Nox!"
"I just started," Nox said casually as he took a spoonful of his cereal, showing no inclination of hurrying up.
"Ugh!" Lux said as she put her head on the table in supposed sorrow. In response, Gaia's Pikipek, a small bird like Pokémon, hopped from its perch in the family room and flew over to land on Lux's head. The Pokémon then proceeding to peck at her ponytail as Lux moped.
"Hey at least you get to have Pokémon and go on a journey, I have to wait another four years!" Amara stated from the other end of the table.
"You have Drampa sweetie," Gaia pointed out as she soothingly rubbed Amara's back.
"Drampa's your Pokémon Mom," Amara pointed out, "He's fun to play with, but he's old and tired all the time,"
"Look sweetie, you'll have your very own Pokémon someday," Gaia assured.
"Promise?" Amara pleaded with her large green eyes looking up at gaia from under her straw hat.
"Promise," Gaia said as she poked Amara on the nose.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnndddddddddddddd, as sweet as this family moment is-" Lux interrupted while gesturing to Nox' empty bowl.
"You two can go now, dear,"
With that, Lux and Nox headed out the door and off to Hala's house to get their first pokemon.
"There they go," Gaia said before looking to Amara again, "So, what do you want to do?"
"I'll be in the backyard with Drampa," Amara said as she started to walk off.
"Make sure you take your medicine first sweetie," Gaia reminded Amara.
"I will mom," Amara said as she walked to the medicine cabinet and got out of her pills before swallowing it with a glass of water.
Gaia noticed Amara's solemn look and said, "I know you don't like taking your medicine sweetie, but the doctor said-"
"I know mom," Amara interrupted as she walked into the backyard to play with Drampa.
Hala's house, Iki town…
"Well, well, you two must be Nocturne and Luxandra Solluna!" shouted Hala, Melemele Island's Kahuna and coordinator of the Tapu Koko festival. Hala was an old man with a large barrel of a gut. He had a bushy mustache along with white hair just long enough to pull back into a short ponytail. He wore a yellow robe over a blue shirt and white shorts.
"Uh… we prefer Nox and Lux actually," Nox pointed out demurely as Lux hopped impatiently in place. Clearly still overly excited to get her first Pokémon.
"Where are the little cuties?!" Lux asked/squealed as Hala gestured for them to follow. The three walked off Hala's porch and went around to the side of his house.
"Now, I see you're quite excited Lux," Hala began as he reached for his keyring to find the one for the fence gate leading to the backyard, "But understand that raising a Pokémon is no easy task, it is a lot of responsibility,"
"Uh… okay," Lux said, seemingly taken aback by Hala's words as the realization of the fact that raising Pokémon isn't all fun and games, but then she perked up with renewed enthusiasm, "I'll do my best!"
"And Nox," Hala said to gain the tired boy's attention, "You need to commit, whichever Pokémon you chose will be your partner, your comrade. It will depend on you to give it safety, guidance, and knowledge. So being commitment is a must,"
"Understood sir," Nox said with a sense of worry on the responsibilities he will soon be inheriting. But he put that worry aside and focused on being determined for his soon-to-be partner's sake.
With that, Hala opened the gate and gestured them to step through, "Then welcome to the world of pokémon,"
Both the twins' eyes widened at the sight of several different species of Pokémon within the expansive yard. A tauros, a large, quadruped normal type with two large horns and three thin tails, was casually chewing on some grass while two Rockruff, small dog like pokemon, ran circles around it. As the two walked further into the yard, they noticed a fountain with a gyarados statue spurting water from its mouth. Within the pool around the fountain was a number of water types. Including the duck like psyduck, along with the bubbleheaded dewpider, relaxing at the pools edge. Swimming among the magikarp was a brightly colored bruxish with its sharp fanged mouth smiling maliciously at the two.
"Whoa!" Lux nearly stumbled as a tiny yellow and white Pokémon with a thin brown probe as a mouth floated in front of her face.
"That's a cutiefly," Hala said before looking towards the flower garden, "And here comes the full swarm,"
Within moments, Lux was surrounded by dozens of the tiny bug/fairy types. They landed on her skin and tickled her with their probe like mouths, causing her to laugh, "Hehe- it-it tickles hahaha stop… hehe!"
"You have quite the bright aura there, Lux," Hala explained as he let one of the Cutiefly land on his knuckle, "Cutiefly are attracted to the auras of individuals, the brighter the aura, the more appealing you appear to them,"
"Hehe… r-really?" Lux said as the Cutiefly swarm flew off of her. Nox noted that none of them flew towards him.
"Of course," Hala assured as they continued on to a nearby pond surrounded by large boulders and a giant palm tree hanging over it.
"And this is where I keep the starters: Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio," Hala said as he gestured to a small black and red cat resting on one of the boulders by the pond. It opened one of its eyes at the sound of Hala's voice. It stretched before walking over to the old trainer and greeted him with a meow, its expression looking somewhere between irritated and bored.
"Look! A Rowlet!" Lux pointed into the palm tree. Nox looked up to see the small pudgy bird like Pokémon swoop down onto the ground next to Litten. It was facing backwards however, so it turned its head a hundred and eighty degrees before turning the rest of its body to face them fully. The green and tan colored pokémon gave a 'hoot' as a greeting. Its expression seemed to be quite pleased.
"Hmm… now where's the other one?" Hala said as he looked around. Soon enough he focused in on the pond. Lux and Nox looked to the water as well and saw a single red ball calmly floating in the middle of the body of water.
"Is that…?" Nox asked right before the water erupted in a grand spectacle of large waves and a swirling vortex in the middle. Flying out from the top of this vortex was a small blue Pokémon with a red nose. It got so high up that it was almost invisible against the mid-morning sun. As Hala and the twins shielded their eyes from the sun's rays, they noticed that the Pokémon was taking a nosedive, literally. It was plummeting to the earth head first!
"Mr. Hala! Do something!" Lux cried out in horror as Hala just watched with a knowing smirk.
Right at the last moment, the blue Pokémon inflated a water balloon from its nose, used the elasticity of the balloon to cushion its fall, bounce up, do a mid-air flip, and land on its hind flippers with its fore flippers outstretched in a grand pose.
As Lux metaphorically collected her jaw from the ground, Hala explained, "You see, Popplio love to perform, and this one is no exception,"
"Impressive," Nox admitted, but just then the water balloon popped, spraying water everywhere. This included Litten, causing it to hiss and freak out before running of towards the fence. Litten than hopped over the fence and disappeared into the forest beyond Hala's yard.
"After it!" Hala shouted, "Litten is still young, and some strong Pokémon live in those woods!"
"We'll get it back before it gets hurt sir," Nox assured as he too hopped the fence and ran after the fire type.
Near Mahalo trail…
"Litten! Litten!" Nox hollered for the cat Pokémon as he walked through the forest. He hadn't bothered to see if Lux or Hala had followed him for he didn't want the Pokémon to get hurt. Soon enough he came upon a dirt trail with a sign nearby:
WARNING: beware of local Bewear
"That's not good," Nox muttered to himself. Every Alolan knows to fear Bewear. A large bear like Pokémon that loves to hug people. But its immense strength means that those hugs can be paralytic to the recipient.
'Hiss!' Nox turned his head at the sound of Litten hissing at something, he then saw the fire cat emerge into the clearing before running past him and disappearing into the nearby bushes.
"Litten! Come back!" Nox called to it before he heard the stomps behind him. He turned around to see a large pink and black Bewear, easily over six and a half feet in height.
It spread its arms wide.
In a flash Nox bolted in the other direction, despite his laid-back nature, he wasn't exactly unfit. He could hear the Bewear calling to him and giving chase. He didn't care where he was going, he didn't want to have his back broken.
In his panic to get away from the dangerous Pokémon he didn't see the raised tree root and tripped face first into the dirt.
"Lit?" Nox rolled onto his back, his blurred vision vaguely showing Litten hiding in the tree above him. He then saw Bewear come into view, it looked at Nox, then Litten, seemingly unsure. Litten then hissed at the giant Pokémon before using ember to rain small flecks of flame on the Pokémon. The fire immediately igniting the Bewear's fur. Causing it to panic and grow angry.
As if an affectionate Bewear wasn't dangerous enough, an enraged Bewear was downright deadly.
The burning Pokémon's entire arm glowed a maroon red as it attacked the tree Litten was hiding in in rage. This snapped the trunk like it was nothing, and caused it to start falling on Nox, who quickly scrambled to get out of the way of being crushed.
As Nox recovered, he saw that Litten was pinned down by tree limb. The Bewear now stood over the small pokemon, looking ready to smash it with another Hammer arm.
"Litten!" Nox shouted as he dove over the cat Pokémon to try and take the blow of the Hammer arm. He braced himself for the impact but felt nothing. Feeling that something was off. Nox raised his head up to see a strange wooden chicken head, like one would find on a totem pole, blocking the Bewear's attack. Soon it opened down the middle to reveal a black and yellow Pokémon underneath, there was then a powerful flash of light and the Bewear was sent flying into another nearby tree. The ground around the fallen Pokémon started to spark with electricity, hurting the Pokémon further before it got up and fled.
Nox and Litten watched as the strange Pokémon retracted back into its two-part shell and vanished.
"Nox!" Lux's voice was heard a little way off.
The young boy looked at Litten and knelt down on one knee and asked, "You okay, Litten?"
'Lit,' the fire cat managed to pull its tail free of the tree limb before giving a non-committal shrug like gesture. Its expression bored again.
"Heh, you're a lot like me, aren't you?" Litten just sat down and stared at him, "How about you come with me?"
Litten merely walked over to Nox and rubbed itself against Nox's leg, "I guess that's a yes, but you need a name… how about Ennui?"
The cat purred at that.
"Okay, Ennui it is," Nox said as he stood up, "Come, let's meet up with the others,"
'Litten,' Ennui said as it followed Nox. Soon enough the two found Lux, Hala and the Popplio from earlier.
"Oh good, we found you," Hala said in relief as Lux quickly hugged Nox.
"You okay, Brother?" Lux exclaimed, "This place looks like a fight broke out,"
"Because there was one," Nox confirmed, "This Bewear attacked us, then this… thing saved me and Ennui,"
"Who?" Lux questioned.
"Oh, yea, I chose Litten and named him Ennui," Nox said while gesturing to the little cat next to him.
"…" Lux was silent for a moment before she burst out laughing, "Hahahahahahaha, I'm sorry, but that is just a silly name! haha, isn't that right Grace,"
"Grace?" Nox asked.
"Oh, yea, I named Popplio, she'll be my partner," Lux said as she regained her composure.
"Why would you name her Grace?" Nox couldn't help but ask, his mannerisms suggesting he was quite irritated.
"Because her entrance was graceful, silly," Lux pointed out, the Popplio stood on her hind flippers and gave a grateful bow.
"That 'graceful entrance' was the reason we're out here in the first place!" Nox pointed out rather sharply, and don't forget that Ennui and I almost got killed by-"
"Okay, calm down you two," Hala finally interrupted before the disagreement turned into a full-blown argument, "Maybe we should head back in case that Bewear returns,"
As he ushered the two new trainers and their new partners back towards his home. Hala looked to the figure hiding in the tree line and gave a grateful nod before the figure disappeared.
Author's Note:
So… a small few of you reading this might recognize this story so far. That is because this is basically the first two chapters of my previous pokemon story called: Pokemon Day and Night, plus a few spelling/grammar improvements and a deleted scene. Which focused on the same characters of Nox and Lux. Which also means I have some explaining to do.
And by 'some' I mean, a lot.
I quickly found that my previous story of Day and Night was a total failure. It had many problems. From the fact that at the time I began writing the story, the games of Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon had yet to be released. Which meant limited location names and an unknown regional pokedex working against me. I also had the story styled as a SYOC, which I now realize not only is a lazy excuse to have other people create characters for me. But it also meant that I wasn't sure how to incorporate these characters into the story.
And lastly, this is the big mistake; I convoluted the plot and details of the world. From an overly complex pokedex entry system to foolishly inventing regional history explaining why Alola had no Pokemon league. I even invented a whole secondary region I called Mastearo with the intent of having an interesting villain.
It was a mess.
Perhaps the only good thing to come out of Day and Night was my two protagonists, Nocturne "Nox" Solluna and his twin sister, Luxandra "Lux" Solluna. They boasted being the most consistent and well-developed characters I have ever invented myself (Probably not saying much in the grand scheme of things, but it matters to me). Which is odd because they started as gimmicks in my head.
"Let's make this one tired and this one excited," Was basically my thought process when inventing them.
That said, I knew that I had to scrap Day and Night because I couldn't continue it. But I loved Nox and Lux too much to abandon them to the ether. So, this will be a completely reworked tale, and I use that word lightly as I plan this story to be simple daily life type stuff rather than a proper journey. At least at first.
The main changes though will be summarized as such.
First off, NO SYOC! Submit Your Own Character, to be exact. I won't take any characters from anyone, if I'm to make a consistent story, I need only the characters I need. Some characters from Day and Night beyond the Solluna family will appear, but none of them will have been previous SYOC from that story.
Second, respect to the environment! What I mean by that is that no pokemon that doesn't appear in Alola in the games won't appear in the story unless for plot reasons. I will not have all pokemon be island exclusive though. An example would be that in the games, a Komala only appears in Ula'Ula island, but in this story, Komala can be found across all islands. Though some, like Cubone and Alolan Marowak, will only appear in Akala Island, because it makes sense that they be exclusive to that island.
Thirdly, no convoluted extra details! I tried adding way too much detail and extra plot into Day and Night. Which overcomplicated things and added a lot of new information that left my readers lost (I assume). So, don't expect anything that doesn't naturally exist in the pokemon world. No fake regions, no alternate cultures, no trainer blood identification link to Pokéballs so the pokedex knows who caught what pokemon (Yes… that was a thing in Day and Night…). Just a classic story about two twins living the life of Alolan pokémon trainers.
And with that six hundred plus word author's note out of the way. I'll be getting back to writing the next chapter. Which will include a few familiar faces from the games.
