The King and Queen of Yaren
A clang sounded in the distance. BOOM! Coram raced into the kitchen, where he saw little Alanna and Thom playing on the floor with kitchen pots in hands.
Dashing after them was the exhausted kitchen maid. Even at her top speed, Coram saw that she could not match the speed of their little legs. For they were smart and cunning as well as fast, and this made them even harder to run after them.
Great, he thought, what a wonderful way ta spend me day. He went running after them himself then, and as he caught them the kitchen maid gave him a grateful look.
''I ain't gettin' paid enough fer this,'' he grumbled to himself.
Jejune in the way that infants often were, Alanna yanked his hair. Keeping up with her, he pulled her away from him and chastised her.
Laughing, she only kicked him.
Maybe he needed to teach her exactly who he was. Never doubt the power of two scheming toddlers, a lesson he knew very well.
''Ow!'' he exclaimed, as Thom pinched him.
''Pretty funny, isn't it, queen?'' Thom said, laughing along with Alanna.
''Queen? Queen of what, lassie?'' Coram asked, his eyebrows knotted in annoyance.
''Really, Coram?'' Thom asked, his own eyebrows raised in a condescending fashion.
Simultaneously, Alanna answered, ''Isn't it obvious? I queen of Yaran. We were making ourselves crowns and making knights.''
Thom nodded in agreement and said, ''And I king. That means you have to bow down to me Coram. You in my country.''
Unaffected by this, Coram looked at Thom and said, ''Well I king of Trebond. I'm sayin' ye ain't allow ta do that and I gonna punish ye fer it.''
Very soon, Coram thought he might throttle those children with the look they gave him.
''We don't listen to no one because we king and queen,'' Thom said, sticking his chin out stubbornly, ''and we don't allow any foreigners in Yaren.''
Xenophobic, Coram thought amusedly, their little, made-up country is xenophobic, fer cryin' out loud.
''Yarenese for cursed is 'zyglom,' ''Alanna said as Coram continued up the stairs to their Time Out Room.
''Zyglom, zyglom, zyglom!'' Alanna and Thom screamed, kicking against him.
Okay, so excuse the awkwardness of this fic but I had to make each sentence follow the alphabet. I figured sentences inside quotations didn't count, but sorry if it did. I know this is probably horrible but it's the best I could do.
