A sigh escaped my lips as I entered my big bedroom. It was okay, with the bed in the middle against a wall, a great view of the outside, a wardrobe for my clothes... Just anything you'd expect a bedroom to be.

My name is Elodie. I'm 14 years old and I am the Crown Princess of Nova. My father is the Duke of Caloris and my mother is the Queen...well, was the Queen of Nova.

I put my bag on a stand nearby and collapsed on my bed. I used to have a really nice life, I was in a boarding school with my friends and everyone was happy. Back then, it didn't matter to all of us that we would soon be Dukes, Duchesses or Earls...or Queen in my case.

A faint sad smile appeared on my face as I remember the last time I saw my mother. It was my 14th birthday, and I was having so much fun with my friends in the school gardens. My parents couldn't come, but they did send some lovely presents. They did come a week later though, and my mother took me on a ride through the beautiful countryside in a splendid carriage. I remember the look on her face, so kind and sweet...but behind it was the strong presence of a Queen.

Tears slipped down my cheeks as I sat up on my bed and tried wiping them away. But that was in the past. Now she is gone, and my father had to take me out of my boarding school because now, I'm the next-in-line to the throne. Once I turn 15 in 40 weeks time and after my coronation, I will be crowned Queen. Until then, I'm stuck in the castle I live in.

Getting off my bed and walking to the window, I look out towards the horizon and morning sky. "Why did you leave me, Mother?", I whispered to myself, with more tears slipping down my cheeks. This time, I didn't bother wiping my tears away. "Why did you have to die and leave me...alone?"

I know I have to schedule for my lessons soon, but for now...I shall mourn here, at my bedroom window.
