- Natsu and The Last Dragon -

By - The Bay Man

Prologue...

As the last face was destroyed, our beloved Dragon Slayers learned the truth of their parents existence. They also learned of their Dragons past battles with Achnologia and the loss of their souls to him. After years of searching, they got their chance to meet and unfortunately, to say their final 'goodbyes' before their Dragons slowly disappeared, one by one, until only one remained... Igneel, King of the Fire Dragons!

As he looked at his adopted son Natsu, his eyes beamed with a feeling of pure enjoyment... Never had a Father felt more pride or satisfaction then 'him' at that very moment, as he had raised this young child from a mere hatchling into one of the finest humans he had ever encountered and that made his body glow with pride. His son Natsu, had the heart of a Dragon and because of that Igneel felt that maybe Natsu would be able to keep his secret, perhaps even find and protect that secret...

...A secret so precious to his kind, that it was only known to Igneel, the King of the Fire Dragons and a small group of his closest comrades... The first and soon to be, the last Fire Dragon, an enigma that was sealed away centuries ago to protect it from Acnologia's reign of terror, was still out there!

Somewhere in Fiore, The Last Dragon awaits... Forgotten!

Chapter 1

One Year Later...

As the sun was setting across Crocus, guards were running throughout the streets searching for the vandal known as the Salamander, Natsu Dragneel, who earlier had desecrated the Palace with his flames. Try as they might, they couldn't put out his fire! Even as it burned into the night, it caused no damage other than to create a nuisance as it illuminated the night sky with it's proud message... 'Fairy Tail', a call to arms so to speak.

The King laughed at the childish antics of the young Dragon Slayer, others on his staff were not so forgiving as they saw it as a disgrace to the honour of the royal court. For disrespecting the royal court and it's royal family, they would have his head on a silver platter. Of course that would be difficult after the young Dragon Slayers display of power, just a few short hours ago at the finals of the Grand Magic Games. But the King's honour was at stake and every guard in Crocus was on the hunt for Natsu Dragneel and his partner in crime, Lucy Heartfilia.

Within minutes of the vandalism, wanted posters appeared all around Crocus. Every street lamp, post and corner had a wanted poster, which read... 'Wanted Alive... Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia and Happy the blue Exceed for the will-full and wanton desecration of the Imperial Palace... Reward, 250,000j'. A picture of the three vandals from their previous appearance at the Grand Magic Game's just the previous year, adorned the wanted poster... So begins the next chapter in our happy little duos Dargon-Tale!

Somewhere outside of Crocus...

Normal POV

A very frustrated and pissed Celestial mage was dragged deeper and deeper into the forest by an overly excited Dragon Slayer, who failed to realize that he had unwittingly dragged his friend away from the only home she had known for the past year and she was pissed!

"NATSU!... STOP!" Lucy yelled as she tried to dig in her heals to slow her momentum but failed miserably.

Natsu continued to run unaware of the ticking time bomb that he'd been dragging behind him for past several hours and he was about to realize the error of his ways as he leaped over a rock and felt a sudden tug against his out-stretched arm. Lucy had taken advantage of this obstetrical and used it as a spring-board to propel herself forward, landing on Natsu causing the both of them to tumble to the ground.

After the dust cleared Natsu was face to face with an irate Lucy. He could feel her body squirm under his weight, as he felt something warm and soft beneath his hands. A smile crossed his face as he realized where his hands were, but before he could even apologize for his awkward position a-top of her, he heard a low growl and suddenly everything went black.

Three Hours Later...

Natsu woke to a wonderful smell, a combination of brimstone and chicken filled his sensitive nose... 'His favorite combination!' He thought as he opened his eyes and cautiously stood up. He squinted his eyes as he looked around, but upon finding no sign of Lucy or Happy, a sigh of relief passed his lips as they were no where to be seen. Then his eyes caught sight of his Holy Grail, three chickens and a fish roasting on a spit over an open fire.

"Luce!" He quietly yelled and waited for a response but heard nothing. An evil grin slowly creeped across his face and at that moment... Food!... Food was all that occupied his thoughts! It's heavenly aroma was intoxicating and he hadn't eaten in nearly two days! Ten minutes later all that remained was a pile of bones laying next to a slowly dying fire, which he was tempted to eat as well... But he'd already felt guilty enough for eating every last morsel of food just moments ago. 'Lucy and Happy are gonna kill me!' He thought as he rested against a fallen tree and massaged his protruding stomach.

After his battle with his inner demon, food! Natsu used his keen sense of smell and hearing to locate Happy and Lucy, who were happily playing in a nearby stream. He smiled and relaxed as he felt no danger near them. As the minutes ticked by, boredom quickly followed as he waited for them to return and that's when he noticed Lucy's backpack sitting next to the fire. He grabbed it and pulled out a stack of papers and several old notebooks that were all bound together by a thin leather strap. In their haste to leave Crocus' Lucy ripped all of the newspaper articles off the wall and stuffed them into her backpack. Her research on their comrade's where-bouts was extensive and would prove valuable down the road or at-least that's what he believed.

As he thumbed through the papers he smiled as he noticed a story about the little Sky Dragon, Wendy. With a smile, he began to read. He knew where she was and soon he'd get her and everyone else back... 'Fairy Tail would be reborn!' He thought. With all this information that he held in his hands, the job would be a cinch. He thumbed through more articles and quickly checked each members location, quickly setting each one to memory until a small brown book caught his attention. It had a familiar scent of strawberry and vanilla. Throwing caution to the wind, he put everything else back and held the book close to his nose... He took a deep breath and felt calmed, more relaxed! He'd not felt like this for a long time as he'd missed Lucy more than he cared to admit!

Natsu turned the notebook right-side up and read the title on the plain brown soft-covered book. He couldn't believe what his eyes were seeing... In big bold letter it read, 'The Last Dragon by Lucy Dragneel'. He dropped the book and without warning found himself flying into a tree and everything went dark for the second time that day...

...Lucy was back and his world was about to change!
