In a small dark wooden cell, Mako is chained to the far wall parallel to the front door.

"Ugh, where am I?" Mako said fluttering his eyes open.

Mako tries to get up and is immediately pulled back down, slamming his backside against the floor.

Crap, I'm shackled.

Mako tilted his head back and turning to look at his hands behind his back.

I could try lighting to destroy them but that would make too much noise, and I can't heat up the shackles because I can't get hit enough to do any real damage.

Mako looked around the cell only to stiffen when seeing a shadow through the small crack at the bottom of the cell.

The door suddenly flew open flooding the cell with light causing Mako to grimace.

Suddenly a female prisoner was thrown in landing next to Mako, shock draped over the firebender's face.

"You!" Mako barked.

The female prisoner was Kuvira in platinum shackles.

"Why are you here?" Mako asked.

Kuvira sat up and looked at Mako with confusion.

"I was taken liberated from Suyin's custody by my soldiers, then imprisoned again when I refused to attempt to retake the city, I think the better question is what you're doing here?" Kuvira responded with an air of smugness turning away.

"I was at the wedding reception when…no" Mako said looking away in despair, suddenly a flash of memory came back. It was the wedding reception, Mako had come back after everyone had left to grab his coat, but was attacked by a group of metal benders and everything went dark.

"I was attacked and taken prisoner, I guess they were looking for Korra, and when they couldn't find her they took me." Mako said stoically, then asked "But where did they take us?"

"We're in our main prison in Omashu, hence the wooden cells." Kuvira said coldly.

"For earthbender…" Mako replied.

"For earthbenders…" Kuvira repeated, still not turning back to face Mako.

"Also…" she continued.

"Stop looking at me like that, I'm not the enemy anymore." Kuvira said slumping her shoulders.

Mako stammered raising his eyebrows.

"You've been staring a hole in my head since you recognized me, I did what I did, there is no changing that, yes I regret it but you have no right to judge me!" Kuvira barked raising her head back up.

Mako met her anger with his own. "No right!? I think I have every right you tried to kill my brother and my best friend, before that you brainwashed my brother into helping you take over the Earth Kingdom for your own selfish reasons!"

"Selfish! How dare you?! I did what I did to help people, the Earth Kingdom was in chaos and I was going to bring it order." Kuvia argued.

"You mean bring it fascism, you're no better than Fire-lord Ozai and his forefathers, how was that helping people?!" Mako screamed with a anger flaring across his face.

"Because they wouldn't of been alone." Kuvira said quietly, bending her chin to her chest.

The anger left Mako's face.

"You don't know what it's like, to be alone, to have nothing, to have no one to help you or look after you if you need it." Kuvira said holding her tears prisoner.

I won't give The Avatar's friend the satisfaction of seeing me like this.

"Oh I know perfectly!" Mako said gritting his teeth.

"No you don't! My parents abandoned me! Left me to fend for myself, how could I let the ruling class do the same thing to my home, my nation." Kuvira said this time letting the tears flow and snapping round to look at Mako with anger.

Damn it!

Mako looked away filled with guilt. "I'm sorry, I didn't know."

"Well now you do, but what does it matter?" Kuvira said quietly.

"It matters because, I understand now… You see the Earth Nation the same way as I see Bolin. We lost our parents too, all I cared about was Bolin, making sure he was taken care of, regardless of how bad it made me seem, I joined gangs, stole, did whatever I could just to make sure that he was taken care of. I tried to give him order and be there for him when no one else stepped up." Mako said looking Kuvira in the eyes.

"I'm sorry and even though I don't agree with what you did, I understand yo…" Mako tried to say before he was interrupted by a tear stricken Kuvira lunging forward planting a kiss on the firebender's lips.

First met with shock Mako slowly allowed himself to return the surprisingly gentle lips of The Great Uniter.

Kuvira pulled away and looked away from Mako, flushed with embarrassment and guilt.

"I'm sorry, it's just no-one's ever seen things that clearly before, not even Betaar." Kuvira said.

"It's ok." Mako said with a small comforting smile.

"I uh, guess we should get out of here." Kuvira said.

"But…" Mako said but before he could finish his sentence Kuvira was already standing and moved her platinum cuffed hands in a small Kata, suddenly the chains that bound Mako to the wooden wall behind him crumbled granting him freedom.

"So you could do that the whole time?" Mako said standing up and rubbing his wrists.

"Yes, I just wan't sure if you would help me escape so I decided to save the surpise." Kuvira said with a small smile.
