Thunder cracked overhead. Rain circumfused on anyone who was imprudent enough to be outside on this miserable night. Of course, one of these imprudent people included a young girl, no older than 11, who was wistfully trudging through the flood of water. She didn't know where her destination was, only that she has to escape the malevolent forces that reeked this planet. That she has to escape her heritage. Her destiny.
A soft sigh left her pale lips as she allowed a shiver to overcome her body. Instinctively, she swaddled her dark blue cloak around her thin form. She had to get out of this downpour. Taking in her surroundings, the young female noticed a thin alleyway, drifting of to her left, covered in a makeshift roof. For once in her life, she allowed a small smile of relief to submerge underneath her hood.
The girl scurried over to her destination. As soon as her target was reached, she finally began to feel temperate. But that didn't last long as a small and terrified squeak could be heard from behind the girl, causing her to stiffen.
Turning ever so slowly, she came face-to-face with the shadow of a human being. She could not tell the gender or the age, that is, until the person spoke. "P-please don't hurt me." A young male's voice could be heard from the being.
"Why would I hurt you?" The girl spoke in an emotionless monotone. She did not wish for herself to sound heartless, but that was how she was raised since birth. 'Feel no emotions, and no one will have to suffer your wrath.'
She saw no wrong doing in her teachings, but regretted it when she felt fear emit from the boy. "E-everyone wants to h-hurt me." He uttered almost inaudible.
The girl allowed herself a moment of shock. Who, in any sane mind, would want to hurt a innocent child? A child that wasn't herself. Feeling remorse towards the young boy, she hesitantly lowered herself in front of his shivering form. Reaching for the clasp of her cloak, she unravelled it and held it out for the boy. "My name's Raven, and I promise I won't ever harm you."
Once she felt his fear attenuate, she wrapped her cloak around his narrow shoulders. "Garfield." He suddenly said.
Raven blinked, "Sorry?"
"My name. It's Garfield." He gave a small smile that was barely seen from his female companion since the shadows were still shielding him from the naked eye. The dark empath returned a small, genuine smile of her own and offered her hand to the boy. But he once again shrunk into the cloak and stared at her extended hand in astonishment.
"Why are you helping me?" His voice unwavering from his new found comfort in her presence. All amusement left the young girl's eyes, and was replaced with stone. "No one should endure what I have." She finally allowed an emotion to show on her face; pain. "Do you trust me?" She once again held her hand out to him.
"...Yeah."
This story is posted on Wattpad as a multi-chapter story but I haven't yet gotten around to post the other chapters as of yet, so I decided to make it a one-shot because the only chapter I have written could be interpreted as how both Raven and Beast Boy met in the JL vs TT universe. If I have time to write other chapters I will then make this into the story that I was hoping to have, but at the moment it is just going to be a sort of origin story.
