Disclaimer; Avatar the last Air bender? nope we don't own it. Naruto? nope we don't have that either. TT-TT What have we accomplished then?
Water, Earth, Fire, Air. Long ago the four nation lived together in harmony. But that all changed when the fire nation attacked. It was believed that the avatar, master of all four elements, was the only one who can end the fighting. But when the world needed him most, he vanished without a trace. For over eighty years the fire nation raged war on the world, until he came. The one man that single handedly took the blunt of the fire nation army, storm the capital city, and took the fire lord and his family down; all on his own. That man then took the fire nation's power and broke it. But the fire nation was not erased from history as the man had a goal. He wished to unite the world together not as four separate nations but as one people…one world…one empire.
With the war over and change started to happen with the Uzu Empire changing the world. People believe that they are making the world better but there are being fooled. The empire is only taking over the world like the fire nation was doing but behind a mask of kindness. My family has been fighting to break the empire so the world can be save and the balance restored. But the only one that can do that…is the avatar.
Avatar; The Last Air bender
The Uzu Empire
~Book One: Water~
The South Pole, a cold icy place. The cold waters were filled with ice blocks and floating ice sheets of many shapes and sizes. Inside a small boat filled with several men wearing blue furred coat garbs but had several weapons at the ready. They rowed slowly through the icy waters so not to give themselves away. The youngest looked to the leader, "Any sign of them dad?"
The man, a dark skin with brown hair and stubble like beard on his chin looked to his son, a seventeen year old boy with his hair mostly shaven expect for the row of the top and his wolf tail, and replied, "Not yet but we can't be hasty Sokka. We only have rumors so fair but we can't rush this mission."
Sokka sighed, "I know but I hate the idea of an empire ship in the south like this."
The chief nodded, "I feel the same but if our Intel says is true then we have to find them. If they are testing a weapon then we must discover its true nature."
"But we know what the empire plans on doing with it," Sokka added.
The chief said nothing but agreed with him but the needed to be sure. He took his spy glass and looked ahead. There he saw it, a large metal ship, many time larger than their own wooden one. it had a flag flying, a red spiral like circle that reminded Sokka of a whirlpool when he first saw it. He saw they were not spotted yet as he moved his men to row into the shadow of a large iceberg. He had them stop as he handed the spy glass to Sokka, "What do you see Sokka?"
Sokka took the glass and peered into it. He saw small figured moving on the deck but he thought he saw something incased in ice being pushed onto the deck. "They have something but it looks like it is covered in ice. Could it be the weapon?"
The chief narrowed his eyes, "I have no clue but…"
He had no time to tell him his thoughts as they watch the feat on the ship. Sokka saw it first as a single figure, not enough detail to get a good picture, have the others move back as they started to move. They made great sweeping motions with their arms as they moved their body almost like a dance. The water churned in front of the ship before it spiraled up like a twisting water spout. It shifted like a snake and moved around the ice covered object and the water now spin around like a snake moving up a tree as it climbed before the water shot off into the air and fell.
The feat was large and great it distracted the men for a moment before one pointed up and shouted, "Look out!"
They looked up as they saw the ice incased object tumbling in the air heading for the iceberg they were hiding behind. The object hit the ice and it exploded into a large fire ball. The iceberg cracked and started to break. They men scampered as the iceberg fell into pieces into the water.
They men were worried they were under attack or be spotted but as they looked at the ship they saw that it didn't seem to have sighted them. Sokka groaned holding the side of the boat, "Okay what was that?"
He got no answer as someone under them glowed a lite blue light before something came up from under the water. That was when a large iceberg showed up from the water's depths with the light coming from it. The warriors of the Southern Water Tribe were astonished at the sight. Inside was a large shadow of something they cannot describe but the smaller shadow looked to be a person. They were sitting as if meditating before, somehow, the eyes open and showed they were glowing the same light. "There's someone inside!" one of the men, Bato, exclaimed as they landed their boat next to the ice.
Sokka himself rushed up with his club hoping to free the man inside. The first few times he struck the ice nothing happen. More men got out to help before it was too late for the man. Suddenly the ice cracked and a great blue light started to shine skyward before the rest of the ice broke apart.
(Scene Change)
"Not here either." Said one of the soldiers of the Uzu Empire as the young woman had used what she learned of bending. Her mocha colored skin showed her to be of water tribe descent, and was wearing orange clothing of importance, but the one thing that was different from her outfit was a blue choker with a wave motif on her neck.
"Lady Katara, we thank you for offering your bending abilities in the search for the Avatar." Another soldier said as the girl smiled politely.
"It's okay, if we can find the Avatar and explain the situation, then maybe he can help us." She said as they continued to look. Katara remembered when she was rescued by the Lord and Lady Uzumaki. She was brought to become a true water bender thanks to them, and that she was with them since a young age. She wanted to find the Avatar because Lord Uzumaki wanted to meet the bringer of balance. That was when suddenly a bright light flashed, nearly blinding the soldiers and herself.
When the light ended Katara had to rub her eyes to clear them before looking around. "Where did that come from?"
One soldier was able to recover enough to get a spy glass and looked in the direction of the light. "Lady Katara, I think we found him."
Katara turned in the direction as the soldier pointed and handed her the spy glass. Katara peered into it and saw him. It looked a bit small but he wore orange and tan clothes she seen pictures of air bending monks wore with his tattoo and eyes glowing as he floated in the air before he lowered himself to the ice and the glowing stopped. Katara then noticed several water tribe men catching him and putting him down and surrounding him. Katara frowned slightly as she lowered the spy glass "That must be him. Only the avatar can have glowing eyes…and Lord Naruto doesn't have the same eyes," she added this as one solider open his mouth with a finger up to speak.
"It seems some water tribe men has found him? Should we pursue?"
Katara thought it over, "They will see us before we get close and if they are rebels then they will flee. Head their way and if they leave, tail them until we can find their village."
"And then?"
"We enter the village peacefully and see if we can talk to the avatar. I rather try and talk this out before we fight them." Katara though had a grin on her face, "Though fighting them might not be so bad."
Some of the soldiers gulped quietly but said nothing.
(Scene change)
Sokka looked down at the boy he was holding up in his arms. He couldn't be older than twelve and yet Sokka had a funny feeling about him. Though the floating in the air and glowing eyes and arrow may also have something to do with that. The kid groaned before he looked up at Sokka. "Hey," he said softly.
Sokka blinked not sure what to say, "Hey?"
The kid held up one finger, "Can I ask you something?"
Sokka raised a brow and glanced at the others before he said, "Ummm, sure?"
The kid grinned widely, much wider than any smile Sokka has ever seen, "Will you go penguin sledding with me?" he asked in a cheerful voice.
Sokka was stunned as were the other men. Sokka gave the kid a deadpan look, "Really?" before he dropped the kid.
The kid laughed before he jumped up and spun around with a small burst of air to keep his lift. "So is that a no?"
Before Sokka could reply the chief said, "Forgive us but perhaps we can learn your name. I am Hakoda, chief of the southern water tribe. This is my son Sokka, my best friend Bato and the rest of my men."
The kid grinned, "I'm Aang," the new dubbed Aang's nose twitched before he sneezed. However with a great gust of air he was sent skywards over ten feet in the air.
Sokka gapped at him as the other men whispered to each other, "You just sneezed….and flew ten feet in the air."
"Really?" Aang asked, "it felt higher than that."
Hakoda took a good look at Aang before he said, "you're an air bender."
"That's right!" Aang said cheerfully.
"Sir!" one of the men said pointing out to the sea, "The ship us heading our way."
Aang turned to see the large metal ship. "Wow, I never seen a ship like that before."
"Well let's not get a closer look," Sokka stated as the others head for the boat but stopped briefly as they hear a loud groaning, "What now?"
"Appa!" Aang cried out as he ran behind a sheet of ice blocking their view.
(Scene change)
"You were right lady Katara," one soldier said "they're fleeing now."
One soldier peered through the spy glass and blinked, "what is that?"
Katara raised a brow and took the spy glass and looked at the giant animal that jumped into the air and splashed into the water. She recognized it though, "That is a flying sky bison. There are few left in the world as most were killed off when fire lord Sozin attacked the air nomads. There is a preserve for them and a few other animals in the southern air temple. Lord Naruto even got a baby one for Prince Brouto last year as a present."
"How can it fly without wings?" one soldier asked, it wasn't flying now so he wondered what was wrong.
"From what I understand air bending." Katara replied handing the spy glass back.
"Lady Katara, we are losing them in the ice field." One soldier reported.
Katara nodded, "our ship will take time to travel through but we still have a way to find them. Someone get me a fire falcon."
"Yes ma'am." Said the soldier, since he didn't want to risk unleash Lady Katara's potential wrath. No one messed with anyone, and that meant ANYONE, from the royal court. Lady Katara was a young beauty that only one man would ever touch her, and by her choice, and those that tried were sadistically brought down. Yet, she still gained great appeal because when she wasn't fighting she was...motherly. Kind and compassionate, especially when healing. It wasn't too long before the Fire Hawk was brought out and Katara water-bended the ink to quickly write a message about discovering the Avatar and the description of him being an Air Nomad of twelve years of age. As soon as Katara finished the message, she attached it to the Hawk.
"Take this to the capital" was the single line she said as she sent the bird off. She gazed out at the icy sees, with only the faintest of memories about her childhood before her Lord and Lady rescued her from all sorts of horrible fates.
(Scene Break)
"Wow, this is really exciting." Sokka said sarcastically as Appa, the Sky Bison was just swimming along with the boats, an escort for Aang.
"Appa's just tired. We're still a little groggy." Aang said as they continued to Hakoda's village.
"Forgive my son. He gets his sarcasm from his mother, but he's got my good looks and brains." Hakoda joked, even if he still missed his wife and daughter. As far as anyone in the Southern Tribe knew, Katara was dead. She was missing since a young age, but even then, Hakoda hoped beyond hope that his daughter was still alive and hopefully happy, even if the reality could be a lot worse.
"It's okay. I've never been to the Southern Water Tribe before." Aang said happily, but he had been planning to come to the South Pole in order to penguin sled, before getting trained.
"Well then it will be a treat for you as it is for us," Hakoda said looking at the air bender, "No one has seen an air bender for nearly a hundred years."
Aang frowned slightly at that, wondering what Hakoda meant by that. He then looked over his shoulder to glance at the ship that was started to be less visible through the floating ice, "Soooo, who were those guys?"
"That was one of the ship used by the empire," Hakoda answered him.
"Empire?" Aang echoed, "What empire?"
"The Uzu Empire," Sokka said giving Aang a funny look, "You seriously don't know about them?"
"Nope," Aang said "I know there is the Kingdom of Omashu and the Earth Kingdom itself but never an Uzu Empire."
The others looked at each other before Sokka said, "Seriously? I know they only been around for less than twenty or so year but you can't be serious. Next you're going to tell me you have no idea of the war with the Fire Nation."
"War?" Aang asked stunned, "What war?"
Sokka stammered unable to take it in. Hakoda however asked, "Aang…how long were you inside that iceberg?"
Aang shrugged, "I don't know…a few weeks?"
"Aang I think it was more than that," Hakoda said knowing it will be hard for Aang to hear. "About one hundred years ago the Fire Nation started a war with the world that lasted over eighty years. They started by attacking the air nomads and wiping them out."
Aang was stunned, very afraid, "That can't be right. I have friends in the Fire Nation."
"As do we," Hakoda said "But after the war been going for over eighty years a man came. No one knows where he came from and many suspected he was the avatar though he always denied this. He took most of the Fire Nation army, stormed the capital city with only a few men tailing him and took down the fire lord. Afterwards the war ended and the Uzu Empire started to form."
"But they are just like the old Fire Nation," Sokka muttered bitterly, "They are taking over with false promises of peace when all they want is control. They fool people by helping them so they won't believe they are ruling them."
Aang wasn't sure what to say, and Hakoda noticed and smiled lightly.
"Let's concentrate on getting back to the village. Then we can show you around, and get some food." Aang smiled sheepishly at that, since he and Appa hadn't eaten for a while.
(Scene Break)
"This is the South Pole?" Aang asked as he looked over the village. It wasn't much to look at as there were men and women in the village walking around. The men were armed with spears and knives made from whale bone, which was stronger than it looked, and the women were dressed in parka dresses to help keep warm.
"I know it's not much, but we're trying to rebuild since the war." Hakoda mentioned, and Aang was sheepish again.
"It's nice, really."
"But it's only a matter of time before the empire comes and tears it down and 'colonize' us." Sokka added after Aang, and Hakoda shook his head. It was just him and Sokka. Wait, Hakoda forgot about his mother for a bit, but it was understandable with finding Aang.
"Chief Hakoda, welcome back." Said one of the Water Tribe warriors, and Hakoda needed to make sure that they were prepared. He certainly felt that the ship of the Uzu Empire had given up too easily.
(Scene Break)
Katara was ready for her opponents as she was ready to spar. One of the few water bending teachers was at the ready, for the safety of the crew. There only a few true masters that could face Katara in battle, but the crew there knew that this match could get dangerous if she was serious. Fortunately, the look on Katara, the Berserk Healer, was not the look of sadistical gleam that came from enjoying the fight, but this was the serious face of someone that wanted to genuinely improve. The crew itself was a mix of Water and Fire benders, those that believed or were former prisoners of war. The spar soon began when one of the Fire benders shot a fireball from his fist towards her.
Katara bended the water so the fire ball was blocked before she sent it at the fire bender. The fire bender was able to side step the water before he sent another wave of flames. Katara formed ice to block the flames before she moved to the side as she moved her arms to gather new water. With the cold and moister in the air allowed her to easily gather water to her hands before she sent to at her opponent. The fire bender was taken by surprise before he tried to punch new flames but the water caught the hand up to the elbow and froze. He cursed silently before he sent a quick volley of small fire balls with his free hand and a few kicks.
Katara gathered the water and blocked the fire looking for an opening before sending a small water whip to keep him on his toes. The fire bender ducked the whip before he spun and did a sweeping kick sending a low wave of fire. Katara gathered the water and used it to push herself high into the air. As she flew Katara had her fingers become covered in water before she froze them into ice claws. She crossed her arms and swung them out so the ice shards flew at her opponent. Her opponent saw the ice shards and formed a fire shield to keep them from hitting him.
A second later he ended the shield but wished that he kept it up a second later. Katara was upon him with a large amount of water forming around her before she sent it right at him. He had no chance to blocking it in time as he crashed into the side of the ship before the water froze around him pinning him to the wall.
Katara took a deep breath to calm herself down. While a spar she mange to keep her sadist side down. The other water benders freed the soldier before she went over and held her hand out, "Thanks for the spar, it was a nice work out."
"The pleasure was mine Lady Katara," the fire bender said stated as he got up, "we still have a bit to go before we can find the village and it is nice to get some of the rust off."
Katara nodded knowing the feeling. "How far are we off from the village?"
The captain bowed to Katara, "We have to move slowly to avoid the ice and so not to startle the villagers. We should however be there in a few hours."
Katara nodded, and knew that even with a group of water benders helping to move ice and water around to aid in navigation, the frozen seas of the North and South Poles were difficult to navigate. There was also the fact that very few in their group were Water benders to begin with, as the capital was based in the Fire Nation itself. It was altered and become open for other benders, but there was still a majority of Fire benders in the Uzu capital.
"Very well, I suggest some of us take a break and get some rest. Remember, once we get to the village, do not start a fight. Even I know that...though Azula is not here to cause problems so we might be able to handle it. Be glad she is not here boys, even the other side of me is far more merciful then her when she's ready to break someone." The entire group shivered knowing the woman Katara was talking about. A perfectionist that was even more of a sadist then Katara sometimes when she is breaking them. Katara herself went to her room.
"I'm glad that we get to see and guard the 'berserk healer'. I rather not have that woman around." Said one of the soldiers as they continued to move towards the Southern Water tribe.
(Scene Break)
"We may have to worry about an Uzu ship coming into town soon." Hakoda said as he met with some of the warriors that were in the Southern Tribe, and that they were worried. They knew not to pick a fight, but wondered who was on that ship.
"We could just wipe them out." Suggested one of the warriors, but was objected by another, Bato.
"No, if there is one thing that is consistent about the Empire, they never make the first strike, or at least rarely. The few intelligent reports we get only suggest two things: That the Emperor ensures to never attack first, and that he offers surrender in the form of a pact." Bato mentioned and Hakoda rubbed his chin with Sokka looking curious.
"True, but there is also the unsettling rumor of an anti-intelligence network that are capable of dealing with any spies. This rumor is being looked into by Iroh."
"Still we have to be ready for a fight," Sokka added, "I rather be armed for when they start something rather than be caught unaware."
Hakoda nodded seeing Sokka having a point but he rather not have it come to that. "How is Aang doing?"
Bato shrugged, "He seems to be fine. He resting now but he did say he was planning on 'penguin sledding' tomorrow."
"Weird kid," Sokka muttered, "I still find it hard to believe he knows nothing about the war or the empire."
"I think there is more to Aang than meets the eye," Hakoda stated. "I have a suspicion who he might be but I think we should wait until we know for sure."
The others looked at each other wondering what Hakoda was thinking. Sokka was quite trusting his father's judgment. While he didn't think the kid was dangerous he still had a funning feeling about him as well.
(Scene change)
The next day Sokka was sharping his boomerang glancing out to the sea every so often. He had a bit of a headache since this morning ever since Aang woke up. After checking the boy out, and finding that his arrow tattoos traveled down his back and to his arms hands and feet, the kid then started to play with the children of the village. He used his air bending to fly around on a glider which was also his staff, blow snow around for the kids and even had Appa use his tail as a large slid for them.
Then Aang left after seeing an otter penguin and has been gone ever since. After a few hours of him being gone a flare shot up into the sky, getting everyone's attention. From the location they guessed it was from the old Fire Nation ship stuck inside the ice. At first Sokka accused Aang of signaling the empire ship to attack them before his father pointed out that Aang had no idea the ship was forbidden and most likely set a booby trap off by mistake.
That was a half hour ago and Sokka was on edge. He knew the empire ship was close but they haven't seen a sign of it nor Aang. Then as an iceberg shifted Sokka saw the large ship as it drifted closer to the village. No smoke was coming from the shaft before it slowed to a stop near the edge of the village and the anchor was dropped. The others have noticed the ship as the children were gathered near their families as the men and Hakoda stepped forward. Hakoda was nervous even if he didn't show it before the metal plank dropped and several people stepped out. Hakoda saw several soldiers acting as guard. His attention however was to the girl in the front. She wore orange clothes that seem more important than the others but had a cloak over most of her body to protect her from the cold. Her skin and looks told him she was of the water tribe decent though he could not help but think of how much he saw his late wife in this sixteen year old girl. 'Could it be?'
"Greetings on behalf of the Uzu Empire, people of the Southern Water Tribe. I am here on behalf of the Uzu Empire seeking a person of importance, and I was dispatched as the emissary of his Imperial Majesty." Katara said and began with an air of diplomacy, one did grow up in the presence of an imperial figure such as the great lord of Uzu and his wife without learning how to be diplomatic and resolve situations before they escalate into battle.
'Remember what Lord Naruto said, there are many ways to resolve a problem, but it is always wise to start with diplomacy. If the people are willing to listen then they will listen, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared for battle.' Katara thought as one guy, the youngest of a group of warriors with a boomerang and warrior's wolf-tail style hair just chuckled.
"Did they seriously send a girl to talk to us? What's she going to do? Knit us to death? Am I right guys?" The boy near her age said, and Katara was starting to get mad. She kept her best diplomatic smile, despite the fact that he was purposely invoking that darker side of her with that comment.
"Are you the chief of the Southern Tribe?" She asked in an all too sweetly voice as Hakoda stepped forward.
"I apologize for my son. I am Hakoda, chief of the Southern Water Tribe." Hakoda said as he stepped forth to the girl. Katara stepped forward, and was a bit happier that she was dealing with someone that seemed to have an inkling of what he was doing.
"I shall let his insult slide for now. I am Katara, Imperial Consort of His Imperial Majesty, Naruto Uzumaki, and I simply ask that you release into our custody the Avatar."
Hakoda froze slightly hearing the girl's name. 'No can it be my Katara?' But he manage to focus before she got suspicious. "My apologies but we have no idea where the avatar is. No one has seen him for a hundred years."
Katara frowned, "Please do not insult my intelligents. Sometime early afternoon yesterday I witness an air bender as he came out of ice with his eyes glowing. We both know only the avatar has those glowing eyes. So I ask again to release the Avatar into our custody."
Hakoda frowned but at least he had a reason for his theory about Aang. "Again my apologies, it was not my intention to lie like that. You see we did find an air bender yesterday and we had no idea if he is the avatar or not. Also Aang is not here right not as he left the village early today and has not been back since."
Katara frowned "Shame. Very well we will simply wait for his return then. It has been forever since I been in my old home and I wouldn't mind…"
"I think you can wait on your ship," Sokka butted in pointing at the ship.
Katara eyebrow twitch slightly and some of the soldiers behind her looked at each other worried. "There is no need to be rude you know. I am not here to cause trouble nor do I intend to make trouble. Fighting here would not…"
"Oh please," Sokka added, "Stop acting so tough. There no way a girl can beat a warrior like us."
The soldiers now all paled and stepped back from Katara. 'He's dead.' Were all their corrective thoughts.
Katara said nothing before she gained a small grin on her face which started to scare the soldiers more, "I'll enjoy this way more than I should."
Sokka didn't seem to notice her shift in demeanor as he threw his boomerang at her. It flew at her before she shift to the side and it missed, but before it could travel far from her Katara turned and splashed the weapons with water and froze the boomerang to the side of her ship. "Hey!" Sokka cried before he shouted as he felt something wrap around his ankle and drag him away.
Katara pulled Sokka at her before she sent him flying into the air. As Sokka screamed flailing his arms he was hit again but another rush of water hit him and he crashed into a snow built tower. Sokka muttered something about a 'watch tower' before the snow under him was blasted up and he crashed before Katara again. This time Sokka was able to get his club free and swung at her. Katara simply rose water up before she froze it just as the club head was in the middle of the water. Sokka tried to pull his weapon free but water hit his stomach and sent him rolling in the snow in front of his father.
Katara giggled lightly before she noticed a few of the other men had weapons drawn and charged at her. If anything her grin got bigger before she formed a spinning water whip and snapped it at one man who's had his spear head removed. Katara pulled her water back before she splashed it into droplets and froze them as they sped at another pair. They soldiers were able to block them but were wide open when Katara sent two large water blast at them. One threw a net at her but it was sliced before it got too close and she whipped the man in the head. Her laughter was heard as she grew more water around. Sokka got up with his father's help as they either glare or stared at her. "Katara!" Hakoda cried. "Stop this now!"
"Not yet," she replied pulling an arm back, "Now cry some more for me."
What happen next took everyone by surprised. Katara was tripped as a penguin slid right under her legs but it was the boy riding it with his staff out that really tripped her up. She cried surprised before she dropped onto snow in a heap as the water dropped. Sokka gapped as Aang slid to a stop and got off the penguin as it skittered away. "Looking for me?" he asked but blushed as he got a good look at the girl as she got to her feet, rubbing her head. 'Wow, she's beautiful.'
Katara groaned slightly rubbing her head as one brave soldier got near her, "Are you alright Lady Katara?"
Katara sighed as she got out of her mood seeing her objective here and had no need for her fun, "I'm fine. Unexpected but not displeasing." She stood up and brushed herself off, "An honor to finally meet you avatar."
Aang gulped glancing at everyone before looking back at Katara, "I have no idea what you…ow."
Katara was in no mood for his games as she made a small water whip to stop him. "I already been through this before. Don't lie to me. Don't hide yourself for who you really are."
Aang was quite staring at her before he sighed closing his eyes. When he open them they had a determined air to them, "Alright, no more hiding now. You're right…I am the Avatar."
