Hi everyone. So recently, I finished watching Mawaru Penguindrum. It was rather thought provoking and I just could not stop thinking about it. Whether you believe in fate or not, I believe the series presented a humorous, somewhat serious, with a splash of colour, anime that talked about love, family, bonds, forgiveness, and bearing the sins of each other, and how the choices of those closest to us, do make an impact. In the present and very well into the future. I hope you enjoy my story. I do not own Mawaru Penguindrum.
"Meet your new friend Kanba Natsume, Shouma", Mom introduced the red haired boy who looked my age. "And look, he has the same beautiful green eyes you do. You two could be twins."
"Hi", I greeted shyly.
"Hi", he boredly replied.
"Why don't you two play together while the grown ups do some talking. Doesn't that sound like fun; Shouma, Kanba?"
"A-Alright…"
Kanba just looked passive.
As Mommy closed the door behind her, I could hear Daddy in the hall, "If we're going to make this second plan work then Shouma needs to be more responsible. Toughen up."
I'd heard them talk about this before. Papa wanted me to get stronger, but really, all I wanted to do was play.
"So, you wanna play ball?"
Kanba took a seat on the floor, "Not really. I want to be there with my dad."
I kicked the ball around one spot, "What are they talking about in there? It's not like it's important."
"Of course what they're talking about is important! They're gonna change the world. And we're going to help them!" Kanba's emerald eyes shined with a passion that a moment ago I didn't think he could convey.
I picked up my ball and rolled it around in my hands as I spoke, "Well what if I don't want the world to change the world? What if I like it the way it is?"
"The way the world is is wrong", he reached up and took the ball from me, paused, then rolled it back.
I sat down in front of him; welcoming the silent invitation to play, "Who told you that?" I rolled it back to him.
"My dad. He says if anyone can fix anything, it's us and no one else." He released the ball to me.
"I don't know about that, but…I just wanna play and do fun things."
"There'll be time to do that later. You know…I like you."
His words caught me off guard, but they made me smile, "Really? Why?"
"You're simple…and innocent."
I assumed that was a compliment. "Well, I like you too. Even if you are serious."
Without even realizing it, a lot of time had gone by while we rolled the ball back and forth.
"Kanba, come out. I've come to get you", Papa's voice called from the open door.
"Isn't Shouma coming with us?"
"No, I'm afraid not. Grab your ball and let's go. You're the one we've picked."
Kanba stared at the ball for a second, picking it up and looking at it.
"I think…I think I want Shouma to come with me", he passed the ball along to me and took my empty left hand in his, "I don't wanna go without him."
Papa just looked between us, as if he thinking about a serious decision, hesitantly nodded and led us out the room.
When we entered, we were strangers, but when we left, we shared something no one else could.
This fanfic is just a theory, and I hope to hear some of your theories of this moment in the anime or the anime in general. I've come to learn that in itself it was an abstract piece of art that the creator intended for us to come to our conclusions about. I hope you all enjoyed it, and I'll be seeing you soon.
