Hermione smiled as she saw Snape stalk up the hall, cloak billowing despite his cane, when Headmaster Dumbledore called his name. Her grin widened as Albus pinned the Order of Merlin (First Class) on his frock coat, then hugged him warmly. Applause rang through the hall and Hermione thought she might have caught Severus smiling at "the barmy old codger".
He spotted her across the hall and appeared by her side in moments.
"Why do you insist on staring at me?" he said irritably.
"Because it bothers you," she replied sweetly, "Now kiss me, you great git of a hero."
