So Far

SO FAR (Sam)

It's been so far.

I know I've never been this far from home before.

Sometimes -- sometimes I think I'll never see the Shire again.

But then I remember all there is to lose.

And I think, I can go just a bit further.

SO LONG (Merry)

It's been so long.

I only thought to be gone for a few days, not months and months.

Sometimes -- sometimes I think it's never going to end.

But then I see those who've borne this for years

And I think, I can hold on for a while longer.

SO HARD (Pippin)

It's been so hard.

I had no idea there was so much evil and pain and violence in the world.

Sometimes - sometimes I think maybe it's not worth fighting for.

But then I find courage and nobility and sacrifice.

And I think, I can try a little harder.

SO WHAT? (Frodo)

So what?

What was the point of all the suffering, struggle and anguish?

Sometimes -- sometimes I wonder if it really was worth it.

But then I see Sam, home with his family.

But then I see Merry, patiently helping a friend.

But then I see Pippin, playing with the children.

But then I see the Shire, at peace.

And I know, that's "so what".

And I think, yes, I'd do it all over again.
