Judgement.

Morals.

They're strange things. It's often said that you can't have one without the other, which, in some cases, is the truth. But when your emotions become involved in a harrowing situation, sometimes both fade from existence.

That's why at the Hellsing Organization, a long-running company dedicated to the decimation of night walkers, the elite members were trained to assess the situation; to look at it without emoting and to do their duty at all costs.

It wasn't a question of whether you thought it was right to destroy a Vampire, even if it was in the form of a child. You had no choice in the matter.

Shoot to kill.

Shoot to kill, or suffer the consequences.

Over the years, numerous men and women of the organization had, during a mission throughout the course of their careers, chosen to suffer the consequences.

The majority of them had returned to the company.

Ironically, they had been brought in body bags, or, on one occasion, in the medical equivalent of a doggy bag.

This was the norm.

But, like everything else in the world, there were exceptions, particularly in one situation that had remained silent for over forty years. It had occurred when a long-time member of Hellsing had chosen to follow his emotions.

It was the day the Angel of Death fell from grace.
