Church And The After Fact:

Mr. & Mrs. Takarty and their daughter Saphire had just moved to Walnut Grove not six months ago. They were accepted into the small community without any hesitation. Jenny & Saphire became fast friends. When Jenny found out that Saphire could sing, she started pestering her to perform in the talent show that was coming up in a couple months.

When the talent show was one month away, everyone went to church like every Sunday, but nobody would forget that awful day. That Sunday, Saphire lost her whole family, her friends and her home. She wouldn't see Walnut Grove for four years and she longed to see her one true friend no matter what it took to get home. If it meant killing the men that kidnapped her and killed her parents, then she would do it.

Church went by as fast as a pig walks through the street. Saphire was talking in low tones with Jenny after church and talking about what song she was going to perform. She had decided on "Like Whoa" and "Bullseye" as the two songs she would sing. Her parents came out of the church after talking to Reverend Alden. They called for Saphire and the three of them started the walk home after Saphire told Jenny she would see her later.

Half way to the farm, Saphire heard horse hooves coming up fast and she turned around to see who was coming up on them fast. She screamed, loudly as a gun went off and hit her pa in the back of the head. Her mother turned to get her away from the men but got a bullet in her head as well. Then men turned to Saphire and she started running back towards town. She had gotten to the church when they grabbed her and picked her up kicking and screaming. Saphire was fighting to stay on the ground and away from her parent's murderers. They held onto her tightly and plundered through town with Saphire kicking and screaming for help. The men got on their horses and went after the kidnappers while Doc Baker went back the way Saphire had come to find her parents.

He got a wagon from the Olson's and brought the bodies back to town. The men came back to town empty handed. They had been unsuccessful in getting Saphire back.
