"Red roses… such a cliché!" said Lois as she stared at the boutique of red flowers that were now neatly arranged in their only vase on the centre of the table.
"Hm… maybe," was all Chloe said. She had a dreamy expression on her face and a smile was playing on her lips.
Lois sniffed and looked at her cousin. "Please don't tell me that you'll actually fall for this?"
Chloe, suddenly realising that Lois was watching her intently, stiffened and then proceeded to put the flowers in a corner of the room. "No, of course not…"
But even she could hear the insincerity in her voice. She wouldn't be able to fool Lois for long. Not when she couldn't even successfully lie to herself.
Red roses were really a pretty 'I'm sorry' present from a guy who couldn't come to their date because he had to stop a homicidal clown… Too bad that the date was a family get-together with her rather 'hard to warm-up to' relatives. And now Bruce was on the bad side of not only her cousin Lois Lane but also her Uncle Sam and her own father.
Smiling Chloe could already picture the next family get-together that Bruce would have to attend this time. Poor him…
