The new chapter of EC is taking awhile to finish. Here, have a drabble while you wait.

Perfectly Ordinary

A/N: I didn't feel like writing Wormtail, so let's pretend he met them later, hmm?

Disclaimer: Yeah, no.

The two boys approached the compartment at the same, from opposite directions. The taller of the two peered through the window; the compartment had only one occupant, who was slouched low in his seat reading a book. The taller boy shrugged and slid the door open, prompting its occupant to look up.

"Everywhere else is full," the taller boy said. "Care for some company?"

The boy with the book just shrugged and returned to his book, and the taller boy entered the compartment, the smaller boy coming in behind him.

There was a long, somewhat awkward silence as the three strangers sat, the boy with the book pretending to ignore his new companions and the other two boys studying each other openly.

"Sirius Black," the taller boy finally said, obviously deciding that the smaller boy was worthy of knowing his name.

"James Potter," the smaller boy replied, extending his hand, which Sirius took. "Aren't all your family evil?"

"Most of them," Sirius admitted. "Aren't all your family eccentrics?"

"Most of them," James admitted, a small smile tugging at his lips.

There was a long silence, as each boy re-appraised each other with this new-found knowledge in mind. The boy with the book lowered it to look them over.

"Remus Lupin," he said finally. "Most of my family are perfectly ordinary."
