When You Say Nothing at All, a bones fanfic

AN: I don't own the song or the characters from the show. I was listening to it after just watching an episode of Bones and this is the result. Comments between lyrics are what I think would be going through Sweet's mind.

Dr. Lance Sweets was dumbfounded. The event unfolding in front of him was transcendent of shocking. It was one thing for Dr. Brennan to sing Girls Just Want to Have Fun and quite another for her to be singing with Agent Booth.

It's not shocking that they would finally act upon the attraction they have for one another, what is shocking is the method they are using to convey it to us. Traumatic experiences cause people to open up to those they feel they can't live without. Agent Booth's "death" certainly qualifies as the traumatic event. It was in this very room, where he jumped in front of a bullet aimed at Dr. Brennan. She was singing on the stage where she and Agent Booth were currently standing waiting for the piano player to start playing.

Sweets' was trying to analyze the entire situation when they started to sing.

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart

'Dr. Brennan is admitting that the heart might have more to it than just beating?'

Without saying a word you can light up the dark

'His voice is deeper than I thought it would be'

Try as I may I could never explain

'Does she realize how much she sounds like a hypocrite right now?'

What I hear when you don't say a thing

'You do that with everyone. It's infuriating how naturally it comes to you.'

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

'They sound really good together. I wonder how much time they put into practice and choosing this song. We should discuss this at our next session.'

All day long I can hear people talking out loud

'They switched who was going first. Wonder if it's to be fair or if it has to do with the lyrics.'

But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd

'Given how solid his chest is, that might be partially true if you consider how fast his heart is probably beating when she is that close'

Old Mr. Webster could never define

What's being said between your heart and mine

'I wonder how she is coping with the cognitive dissidence she must be experiencing.'

As they finished Sweets started clapping.

"Uh, Sweets, what are you doing?" Dr. Brennan asked curious as to why he broke out into applause in the middle of their weekly session.

Sweets looked at Brennan and then at Booth before stuttering, "n-no reason..."

At that moment Booth's phone vibrated. "Looks like someone got murdered. Guess that means we should be leaving Bones. It also means that you can go back to your day dream Sweets."

Booth and Brennan left Sweets to deal with the wanderings of his mind.
