"Gabriel, you are so cheating!" Nelson complained as he died again.
"Nope. Not even a little. You're just a bad soldier." Gabriel laughed.
They had been playing Call of Duty for an hour, and Nelson died within minutes each time.
There was a knock on the door. "Hey, get that will you? Gabriel asked Nelson. "I'm going to get another beer."
Gabriel opened the refrigerator as Nelson opened the door.
"Oh, Riley. Hi!" Nelson moved out of the way so she could come in.
"Hi Nelson. What's going on? It sounds like someone's getting tortured in here." She sounded genuinely concerned.
"That would be the sound of Nelson dying on Call of Duty." Gabriel explained As he sat back down on the couch.
Nelson walked back to the couch. "Yeah, but you were actually a soldier, remember?"
"Oh, so that's your excuse now?" Gabriel laughed.
"Beer in the fridge?" Riley asked as she walked in front of the TV.
"Hey!" The boy complained as she passed the TV and blocked their view.
After Nelson died again, he couldn't take it anymore. "Bye guys. Rematch next week Gabriel?"
"Sure." Gabriel said, and Nelson was gone.
"so, Riley, want to try?"
"Oh no. " Riley shook her head and put her beer on the coaster.
"Come on. It's easy." He handed her a controller, obviously not taking no for an answer.
"Fine." She moved to sit next to Gabriel. "How do you use this thing?"
After Gabriel showed her the controls, he selected the playing field and the game began.
Gabriel searched the area, managing to stay hidden. Riley accidentally threw random grenades and shot at nothing, making it easy for Gabriel to find her. He quickly shot her from behind.
"Wow, I'm really bad at this game." She said as she respawned.
"Avoid shooting randomly and throwing grenades and you may stay hidden." He teased.
Riley punched him in the arm. "Shut up."
Several rounds later, Riley managed to sneak up on him from behind and shoot him in the back.
"Yes! Finally!" she yelled.
"Good job, Riley." He smiled.
Riley narrowed her eyes. "You didn't let me win, did you?"
"Not at all." He replied. He did in fact let her win.
Riley glared at him. "Alright."
Later on, Gabriel slowly became impossible to beat. He kept getting random upgrades and health, while Riley was hard pressed to find ammo.
"You are cheating!" She yelled.
"I am not!" He couldn't help but laughed, alerting her to his lie.
"You're using the chip for upgrades!"
"Okay, maybe I am." He relenting.
"Knew it." She fake glared at him and grabbed his half full bottle of beer and leaped off the couch.
"Hey! That's mine!"
"Mine now." She smiled mischievously.
"Riley, give it back!" He whined.
"Nope."
Gabriel lunged for her, but since he lunged from sitting on the couch, she easily darted away.
"Not so fast in real life, are you?" She taunted.
"Come back here, Neal." He growled as she evaded capture once again.
She only managed to stay away from him a few more times, until he managed to wrap his arms around her waist and pick her up.
"Gabriel!" She squealed.
"Who's not fast now?" He asked.
Her back was against his chest and his arms were still hugging her waist.
"Rematch? This time I promise not to cheat." He said in her ear.
"You're on."
This was super fun to write! I hope you enjoyed!
