Disclaimer: I don't own the song or the show.
The song lyrics are Wade's dialogue. Obviously this is AU, but I love this song and I thought it would be a cute way for Zade to meet.
Zoe walked into the Rammer Jammer, the only bar in town after a crazy long day of absolutely no patients. It looked like a band was setting up, so she went up to the bar got a glass of generic white wine and found a table in the back. She was just beginning to unwind and even get into the country music when she heard someone talking to her.
"Excuse me, but I think you've got my chair."
"What?" she asked looking up at the blond guy standing by her table. "I mean, I'm sorry...I can move." she said getting up.
"No, that ones not taken," he motioned to the other chair at the table "I don't mind if you sit here, I'll be glad to share."
"Thanks," she smiled sitting back down. "This place filled up all of a sudden."
"Yeah, it's usually packed here on Friday nights." he chuckled.
"Noted."
"Oh, if you don't mind, could I talk you out of a light?" he asked after a long pause, reaching for a pack of cigarettes.
"Sorry, I don't smoke. You shouldn't either, does horrible things to you." she cringed.
"Well, thank you," he chuckled putting the pack away. "Could I drink you a buy? Listen to me, what I mean is can I buy you a drink?" he asked and Zoe could swear he was blushing. "Anything you please." He offered standing up and taking her now empty glass.
"White wine?" it wasn't more than a couple of minutes before he was placing a full glass in front of her. "Thanks Cowboy"
"Oh, you're welcome...well, I don't think I caught your name." he chuckled.
"Zoe, I'm the new doctor in town." He nodded taking a sip of his beer.
"Are you waiting for someone to meet you here?"
"Nope, just me...drinking away a bad day." she laughed.
"Well, that makes two of us, glad you came."
"You know, me too. Do you know who's playing?" she asked humming along to the song.
"No, I don't know the name of the band, but they're good, aren't they?"
"Surprisingly, yes." she grinned. And before she knew it he was on his feet offering her his hand.
"Would you like to dance?"
"I'd love to." she stood up noting for the first time how tall this guy was. "I like this song." she said after the silence seemed to stretch on too long.
"Yeah, I like this song too, it reminds me of you and me." he smirked and she had to roll her eyes a little.
"Do your lines usually work?" she teased.
"Well, baby do you think there's a chance that later on I could drive you home? " he asked only half kidding.
"Well, not that your lines are working...but I could use a ride. That is if you don't mind." He was the most sane person other than the mayor she'd met all day.
"No, I don't mind at all."
They continued to dance and talk most of the night and Zoe found that despite his somewhat cocky demeanor she enjoyed their easy banter. And he was the first person to be really nice to her since she'd stepped into the crazy time warp that was this town. By either divine intervention or small space of land that seemed to be Bluebell, she found that this guy...or Wade, actually lived in the third house on the mayor's plantation. And all too soon they were pulling up to her place and he was walking her to her door.
"Well, thank you again Wade. For the ride, and the drink...sorry I stole your chair. But on the upside, I think I may actually like Bluebelle...well I like you anyway." she laughed.
"Oh, I like you too." he smiled walking off her porch. She was just about to go inside when she saw him turn around, " And to tell you the truth...that wasn't my chair after all."
