Came up with this while listening to Like We Used To by Rocket to the moon. Try listening to the song while you read this cause its not a songfic but was based on that song. It's a one shot btw :) enjoy!
Luke sat at the edge of the river in Elysium, drowning in his own self pity. He remembered when they woul huddle closer to eachother, keeping warm. He would hold her close whenever her nightmares struck. She was his to protect, so he always kept her close. She would always tell him how his heartbeat was soothing, how it calmed her down like no one else ever could.
But she lied. HE relaxed her, his heartbeat was what calmed her down and Luke was tossed to the side. Luke looked into the river like a magic mirror. She laid beside him, her head resting on his chest, a smile gracing her lips. Luke should be the one there with her, not him.
Did He save money for months, by scavenging the drains and streets for change so he could pay for two movie tickets? Did he know how to hold her while she cried? Did he put up with her, always spoiling the movie, just because she looked beautiful happy? Did he give himself up to humiliation just singing her Favorite song even though they were both far from children of Apollo, just so she could dance? Did he do everything Luke used to?
They sat at a drive in theatre, much to preoccupied with eachother to pay attention to the movie. It hurt Luke to see how gentle he was with her, and Luke knew he shouldn't hate the boy because it wasn't right, but he couldn't help it. It was supposed to be him with the girl, expressing his feelings for her through tender kisses. She was supposed to smile against his lips, not the other boy's. it was wrong.
Luke couldn't help think about all the things he did for her, and how the boy couldn't possibly do any of it. Yet, he was replaced. His heart ached as he felt that it wasnt fair, he saved the world and didnt get the despite his better judgement, he felt cheated. She was his, and he was hers. No one else could have her, and that was final.
He couldn't possibly love her the way Luke did, because it was inhumane. In a way, he hoped for the boys sake he didn't, cause that much love was painful. Luke sighed and trailed his finger tips over the water, making it a two way mirror instead of one. He had to let go.
Thalia lay in bed, content by her lovers side. Nico's heartbeat was soothing her to sleep, and everything felt right. But something compelled Thalia to look towards the window where she saw Luke Castellan's face. Her breath caught in her throat as she realized what the boy she once loved was seeing. But surprisingly, Luke's gaze on Thalia softened and he nodded before fading back Into the night. Feeling relieved, and free of guilt Thalia eased herself back onto the son of Hades' chest while he wrapped an arm around her subconsciously in his sleep. Her last thought were: I promise.
