Finding the ring in his half of the dresser had been her breaking point. It had been nestled in a small box of emerald green, and inside had been the ring that both broke her heart and mended it.
She cried until she slipped it on her finger, laughing when it was a tad too big. The fact that it didn't fit just made it so much more Wally.
Though most people use the term breaking point as a negative, Artemis feels like it's a positive in this scenario alone. Her mood remained dull, but it wasn't nearly as dark as it had been. She could actually catch herself smiling when she stared at it.
Her life lacked its old meaning, but it seemed to be developing a new one.
She continued everything he cared about. Although she couldn't eat as much as he could, she still tried. Eating his favorite foods, and he most certainly had favorites, made her so nostalgic that sometimes she couldn't see. She slept in his clothes, and when the smell of him would fade she'd douse them in his cologne. Although the cologne wasn't the only thing that made his scent him, she loved it all the same.
His brand of cologne was discontinued while she was away on a mission. She returned and she cried, but she wiped her tears and got over it. The ring on her finger was more than enough. It was like he lived inside of it, but she knew the only thing he really lived inside of was her.
She's fiddling with the ring when the air in her apartment rushes past her, and the most rancid smell imaginable wafts through her nostrils.
"Ah, dang. I knew I should've gone down half a size."
