There is only red.

It's all she sees, all that stretches out before her. She can feel it seeping into her, trickling down her spine like ice. There's no wind, no sound – she's the only living thing here.

She won't be alone for long.

She brings up a hand to her face, watching the blood drip off in slow motion. The gentle plip as it hits the bodies below echoes through the world, bouncing off the bruised, decaying sky.

There's a flash behind her.

She spins around. It's so far away but so bright, blinding. Puppet strings drag her towards it, up the mountain of corpses, her feet gliding through the scarlet mist. And then suddenly she's there, in the centre of the shining white light, on the highest point in the world. A blissful smile curves her mouth as strong arms wrap around her, and soft lips brush against her cheek.

"It's all ours," he whispers into her ear.

When Kyomi Takada wakes up, she's still laughing.
