Sirius stood over the little bed in Amirielle's bedroom. His little girl was growing up in front of his eyes. Tonight she slept, for the first night, without the night light on, and just the night before she hadn't got up for a glass of water. He was delighted as well as depressed. Tomorrow they were going out for her birthday. Unfortunately this would be her first birthday without James and Lily. He didn't know if the girl would even notice. As much as he wanted her to remember his friends he would rather her be happy on her fourth birthday. He tiptoed closer and pulled up the blue blanket close to her chin. Brushing back blonde curls from her forehead and gave her a kiss. Smiling down at her he felt his heart swell. As he turned to leave he heard a little voice from behind him,
"What are you doing, daddy?"
"Checking for monsters, blue bear."
"Did you find any?"
"One but he left when I gave him a biscuit."
"Oh good. I love you daddy."
"Love you, too blue bear."
