Separate Bedrooms
Mikey woke up feeling excited that he and his brothers were turning thirteen. He got out of bed and went over to Donny who was still sleeping in his bed.
"Donny, wake up!" Mikey said excitedly.
"What's up, Mikey?" Donny asked as he opened his eyes.
"Today's our 13th birthday," Mikey said.
"We should see if Leo and Raph are up yet and wish them a happy birthday," Donny suggested.
Just then, Leo and Raph appeared in the doorway. Mikey signaled for them to enter which they did.
"I'm really looking forward to spending our 13th birthday together," Leo said.
"I like that Splinter has found a way to make our birthday special every year," Raph said.
The turtles spent the next few minutes discussing their birthday plans. Then they left the room to go have breakfast.
A couple hours later, the turtles were hanging out in a secluded area of the sewers. Splinter had told them to play outside of the lair so he could clean the lair thoroughly.
"I don't get why Splinter didn't want us in the lair while he cleaned," Donny said.
"He usually has us do some of the chores," Leo said.
"I'm just glad we get to spend time out of the lair," Mikey said.
"I hope Splinter has a good reason for not sharing the chores with us today," Raph said.
Splinter was in the lair working on his surprise for the turtles. He finished a couple hours later.
The turtles will be very impressed, Splinter thought. Now I shall go get them.
Splinter found the turtles playing just outside the lair. He motioned for them to follow him which they did.
The turtles were surprised with what they saw when they got back to the lair. It turned out that there was one bed in 4 different bedrooms.
"We got our own rooms!" Leo exclaimed.
"All right!" Raph exclaimed.
"Mikey, you all right?" Donny asked with concern when he noticed that his younger brother looked upset.
"Doesn't Splinter want us together any more?" Mikey asked, the floodgates opening.
Donny gathered Mikey in his arms. Mikey wrapped his arms around Donny and buried his face in his shoulder.
"You need to stop acting like a baby," Raph said harshly to Mikey. "We're thirteen years old now so you better start acting like a grown up."
"Raph, that was totally unnecessary," Leo said sharply.
Raph and Leo started arguing. Splinter told both of them to stop and follow him which they did.
"Donny, do you think I'm a baby?" Mikey asked and then broke down completely.
"Mikey, we all grow up at our own pace," Donny explained while gently rubbing his brother's shell and rocking him back and forth. "Raph's just being difficult. He shouldn't have called you a baby since that was very hurtful. He needs to learn that saying some of the stuff he says can hurt others."
"So you don't think I'm a baby?"
"I don't and you can come to me if you have a problem just like you've done in the past."
Mikey tightened his hold on Donny who did the same. Just then, Splinter, Leo, and Raph entered the room and the two of them released each other.
"Mikey, I'm sorry for what I said," Raph apologized.
"No problem," Mikey said.
"There are advantages to having your own room," Leo said.
"Like what?"
"You can make your room look the way you want and you have a place to go if you need to be alone," Donny said.
"Having my own room is sounding better than it did earlier," Mikey said.
"Glad all of you like having your own rooms," Splinter said. "Now you need to get some rest so we can train more tomorrow."
Splinter and the turtles wrapped their arms around each other. They released each other several minutes later and all of them headed for their own bedrooms.
The End
