"Julia! Julia! Where are you? I've brought a …"
"Unwrap me William."
"visitor."
"Good Gracious!"
William's jaw dropped, not to mention George's, however he quickly regained his composure and turned George around saying, "George, please go into the parlour, take off your coat and make yourself comfortable. I need to have a talk with my wife…." Then he turned back to the bedroom, stepped in and closed the door behind him. Walking towards Julia and speaking in an irate tone and raised voice he knew George would hear, "Julia, what on earth do you think…." He didn't get any further as he removed his overcoat and jacket in one, tossed his hat on the bed and removed his scarf with both hands throwing it over Julia's head and shoulders and pulling her towards him into a kiss. "William, I thought … but George…." Julia said, stunned that William would act this way with George in the next room. "I want to unwrap my present; we'll just have to be quick." William whispered into Julia's ear as he undid the bow and her wrappings fell to the floor. He picked her up and carried her to the bed.
In the next room George found a spot for the box he was carrying then took off his helmet and overcoat. He sat down and tried not to think about what was going on in the bedroom but couldn't help straining his ears to listen in to what the Detective was saying to his wife. He was sure she'd be getting a lecture on propriety like the ones he'd had in the past. Was that giggling he heard? Then he plainly heard an "Oh William." He shifted in his seat, maybe the Doctor wasn't getting a lecture after all! Obviously he knew what went on in a marriage, he had been engaged after all, but he'd never quite imagined the Detective engaging in marital relations. He supposed he should have and the Detective had loosened up considerably since his marriage to Dr. Ogden but he still couldn't picture him doing that. Though the Doctor was quite modern in her ways and he had seen her in less at the naturist colony a few years ago, yes, perhaps the Doctor could pull the Detective out of his shell. He still wasn't sure how he should react when they reappeared from the bedroom though….
William dressed quickly then helped Julia, he spoke in hushed tones, "Don't bother with the corset Julia, it will be much more comfortable for you and take much less time." William finished closing the fastenings on Julia's skirt then said, "Well, are we ready to face George?" Julia nodded and William swung open the doors. George was sitting in one of the chairs in his shirt sleeves, he'd certainly taken the invitation to make himself at home seriously. William sat on the sofa and apologized for taking so long, "I was helping Dr. Ogden fasten her … corset." he lied. Julia rang the kitchen to order another dinner, offered George a sherry, poured one for herself, then sat next to William on the couch. "So George," Julia enquired, "do you have any plans for tomorrow?"
