Newt had just turned eleven that year, and he was excited for the next step in his Hogwarts first year shopping. Trudging through the snowstorm, he looked at his list and saw the last words on it
All students MUST have wands!
"A wand!" Newt said to himself happily, as he rushed to Ollivander's wand shop. He hoped this would be the best part of it all, but the shop was all black and boring.
He then saw the face of an old man saying, "Is this the boy I have heard is in town? Scamander?"
Newt nodded.
Ollivander told Newt about the legend of the boy with a name that rhymes with Ollivander, who would bring life back to the store. Agreeing to look after the shop, Newt was left alone for the day. He went to find a new wand, and found one wand with a sharp dagger-like tip, and a golden finish.
"Yeah, and that would be great if we could afford it." Newt thought, but he still gave it a a flick, it shot a spell making the wall start to turn golden. He put it down as if he had done nothing.
He saw another cool wand, gave it flick, and birds began to start spewing out of it, to prevent this he locked it in the "Bigger-on-the-inside suitcase" he bought that morning. Soon, all of the kids from the streets saw and heard the music, color, and joy that Scamander gave the shop.
Now, the kids dropped their bouncy-balls to watch the store dance with joy. All the while, Newt thought he would get into trouble for all of the "wreckage" he made. But all this time, there were two times more wands sold than normal. Scamander moved about the mess of twenty birds, thinking he was in big trouble, but as it turned out, the store NEEDED a little chaos to brighten it up.
When the crowds left the store, the birds followed, and what was left was a mess of bird poop, a golden room, and a bunch of knocked down boxes. Newt began to clean, but, he was too late. He looked up to see the face of an angry man. It was Ollivander.
He said, "I said add color. I did not mean bird poop!" You could hardly see the golden walls because of the poop.
Scamander argued, "I am ok, the store is still standing, and I sold a few wands."
Ollivander, however was still mad. As Newt started scraping the bird poop away, Ollivander saw the golden walls now. He looked at the sales list.
Sold: 200 wands
With that, Ollivander apologised, and let Scamander go. As the boy left the shop, the store turned back to black, and the poop went away. Even to this day, the sales have never been so good as when the legend of Olli-Scamander came true.
