Chapter One
Triangles Aren't Right
.
.
Everyone in Orehara middle school know the name Akatsuki Shiori.
She was a... unique girl, in the nicest wording. Even from the first glance, everyone can tell that she's different from others — odd, and seems to stand out even when she doesn't mean to. But regarding this, she is also able to suddenly disappear. The quiet, calming aura that usually excludes from her gone in a matter of seconds.
And no, that aura isn't her quirk, though it should be seriously consider as the second one.
Besides those, Akatsuki Shiori is also well-known as lazy. She rarely does work if it isn't important like studying and training ("I don't like wasting time to do unnecessary work." was what she said when asked once), and she was quiet, but not because she's shy — she's a blunt person, after all — but because she's too lazy to speak. And of course, Shiori loves her sleep. She'll do every free moments to sleep, this includes the not-so-free times like in class (none of the teachers disturbs her — they've learned their lesson).
That she is clever and is ranked 2 in their grade is went unsaid.
But the one thing everyone who knows Shiori was shocked by, isn't any of the said traits. It is that, the idle and lazy Shiori, is one of Japan's rising talented kids in Martial Arts. And her talents have been recognized by the country since she was nine. Specifically, her talents lays in Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu (a martial art in which you strike your opponents in their vital points and relays in speed) and Bujinkan (a play in defense and the quick moves of disabling your opponent).
Both are pointedly to knock your opponents out, not to hurt them, fitting of her dream to become a Pro Hero. Her quirk is very flexible, and is useful for many things, and Shiori have considered to be a Healing Hero, like Recovery Girl.
It is a noble goal, especially because she aims to enter U.A., the top school in Japan, and is in top five hero school in world scale. It's known for it's less than 0.2% acceptance every year, but most everyone knows Shiori will make it. When determined, she can get anything she want. (It is a rare happening — she is scary enough when she's her usual self.)
Of course, she'll get into Yuuei with her childhood friend, Bakugo Katsuki.
Now... While Shiori is idle and can be pleasant, Katsuki is downright arrogant and has a short fuse. He is a scary person, who glares and has vast vocabulary. He's always been like that since he's small.
Wherever Shiori goes, Katsuki follows and vice versa. Sometimes they will sees Shiori dragging her feet behind Katsuki, or Katsuki glaring at everyone from behind Shiori. They're inseparable, and that mainly is because Katsuki's aggressive efforts — that is to say, Shiori's are more passive than anything.
They make quite a pair.
Katsuki prides his quirk as better than anyone else's except Shiori's. His explosion quirk is deadly, and unique, that everyone acknowledges. His ambition is to be No. 1 Hero (with Shiori). Everyone is baffled at first, on why two very different people stuck together. They only knows that they're childhood friends, as both are very private persons.
But here, see into their very first meeting...
.
.
"Shon!" A grinning Mitsuki opened the door of the Bakugou's apartment. There were a man and his baby daughter in front of the door. It was quite obvious that the man was the father, from the pure white hair they shared. "Come in!"
They entered the apartment, and the baby looked around with half-lidded eyes, as if curious but lazy. Her papa exchanged something else with Mitsuki, and then proceeded to put her down into the makeshift playground on one corner of the room. She frowned — she wanted to sleep in Papa's arms.
An incoherent babbles came from her right and she turned her head. There was a male baby, laying there with a discarded toy next to him. He had a wild ash-blonde tuffs that sticks out exactly like Mitsuki's, and his blood eyes stared at her unblinkingly. She stared back with her blue eyes.
It'd felt as if she was in his territory, thus making him — the king — observed her to see if she was worthy enough to be there.
The kiddy king blinked and huffed grumpily, to which she counted as a win.
It was the first win of the many more to come.
.
.
Shiori opens her eye in slight irritation.
Their homeroom teacher had given the class their school choices papers, only to said that he knows everyone would be going into hero course. Of course, the students were riled up and the class had gone excited and Katsuki's declaration wasn't the most quiet either. But couldn't they be considerate just a little bit? Shiori just wants to sleep...
"Aaahh! That's mean, Kacchan."
Of course, it's none other than her childhood friends...
"Most top first-string heroes have stories about them from their school days." Katsuki's calm voice said. "Shiori and I are going to be the only two able to get into Yuuei from this mediocre city's junior high school. We're going to be the best heroes, after all. So anyway—"
Katsuki puts a burning hand to Izuku's shoulder, and Shiori knows glumly that it's time to interfere.
"—Don't apply to Yuuei, nerd."
"Come on, you could've said something back." Akuma Hitoshi, the black-haired friend of Katsuki, scoffs.
"Well, what do you expect? Katsuki is very intimidating, after all." Suzuki Akashi, the brown-haired guy who Shiori remembers entered the same kindergarten as her, laugh mockingly.
"And you're very loud." She encounters calmly.
The two boys goes silent as they look at her in shock and a bit of fear. She's well-known of her physical ability as well as quirk, though why they fear her is a mystery, as she hasn't done anything to them. It's most probably because of her intimidating stares and blank face.
Whatever. Shiori doesn't care about people's opinions of her.
Izuku has turn his quivering eyes to her and are stuttering something without a sound. She regards him calmly, taking a relief at his unharmed form, even though the uniform on his shoulder is a bit burned (no doubt Katsuki's work). She gives him a tilt of her head and a smile, to which he replies with relaxing and smiling back.
"Tch." A hand circle her collarbones area and drags her backward towards the door. "Let's go home already, Shiori."
She turns her body easily and take her bag from her table, sneaking a wave goodbye to Izuku. She notices Akuma and Suzuki following them from behind as they often do.
She stay silent, as the three boys talk on the way home. They didn't mention about Izuku, instead they talk about their senior high school dreams. She bid the boys goodbye when they near the apartment block, as Katsuki and the others have said that they're going to go out for a bit.
She's just finished her shower, when her father suddenly shouts from the living room.
"SHIORI! Katsuki, he's—!"
.
.
She's pushing herself as fast as she can.
The district isn't too far from her home, but it's still 10 minutes away even with running. All the way, she clenches her teeth and pray with everything she's got that he's okay.
"Katsuki is being apprehended by a villain! From the look at it, he's being suffocated!"
"Tch." She pushes herself faster.
Nearly five minutes later, she arrives, only to find Izuku— stupid, quirkless Izuku what is he thinking?!— throwing his bag at the slug villain. The insides fly out and successfully hit the villain on the eye, but Izuku has already charges at the villain, clawing at his hand without any use.
But it seems his effort works somehow, freeing Katsuki's mouth and giving him fresh air.
"Kacchan!"
"Why are you here?!"
"My legs moved on their own, I don't know why though!" Izuku shouted frantically as his hands keep clawing uselessly. "But..."
"...You looked like you needed help."
Izuku...
"Oi! Stop, girl—!"
"What are you doing?!"
"Katsuki!"
Both boys turns towards my running form, and their eyes widens.
"Shiori?!"
"Shiori, get the fuck outta here!"
I reply to none.
I'm reaching them, so close—
"Shi...ori...!" Katsuki's eye is the only thing not covered in the villain's body, and he's clearly struggling greatly.
"Just a little bit more..." The villain tenses and prepares his body to attack Izuku, but I'm already moving at him.
I jump from the ground, and aims a flying high kick towards one of his eye. He notice it a bit too late, and the kick sends him staggering back with a yowl of pain. He's not loosening his holds on Katsuki.
"Such braveness!"
"No! That kid— is he suicidal?!"
"He's going to die in vain!"
I glance back to see Izuku's falling form. Oh no, I'm not fast enough...! My body is already moving to his, but I know I won't make it in time.
And just when his body is going to hit the burning flames, someone save him.
All Might.
.
.
Neither said a thing on their way back home.
Shiori stays silent as Katsuki rants at Izuku, even letting out a slight smile. It seem he's feeling better already, even though he could've done it without insulting Izuku. Shiori stay behind to talk with Izuku.
"Izuku, you okay?"
"Ah, I'm fine! All Might saved me, so I'm unharmed. See!"
Shiori nods with a smile. "I'm glad... I rushed from home once I heard about Katsuki, so I was really surprised to see you there, much facing the villain like that."
"You did it too."
"I know. But you know I've got my martial arts." She rubs her neck. "Next time, be more careful alright? There won't always be heroes to save us."
"Ah, right." He mutters sheepishly.
Shiori nods, then gives a wave. "I need to get going, or he'll have a panic attack from me taking too long."
Izuku laughs at that, no doubt the ridiculous imagery of a fretting Katsuki has enter his mind. Shiori, proud for making him laugh, chuckle in amusement and walk away.
Katsuki didn't panic, but he got worried a bit. He's accepted her explanation without a fuss, unlike his usual self. He should be grumpily telling her that she shouldn't hang around Izuku so much.
On an impulse, she slips her hand into his hand which is clenched inside his pants' pocket and intertwines them together.
Katsuki freezes mid-walk.
Shiori shrug, and smiles up at him. "The air is a bit cold."
In answer, he grips her hand tightly.
.
.
I've had this idea since a while ago, and here is it~
Of course, the pairing is strict Katsuki/Shiori.
