Wife
Roy Mustang.
At thirty-five, he is aging. Traces of white can be found in his once fine black hair. His dark eyepatch seems to make him look so depressed, or is it because of the other uncovered eye which was once bright with determination, now dull and lifeless? He no longer wears his military uniform with pride and perfection. It is neat enough to pass, yes, but it doesn't boast his style like it once did. When he walks now, the quick, confident stride in the past has slowed. The arrogant smirk, once his infamous trademark, is never seen anymore.
Once a great Brigadier General, three years ago he has fallen to the rank of a Private. In these three years has managed to climb three ranks, becoming a Warrant Officer. It is not remarkable enough.
He has few girlfriends now. Who would want a man who is getting old and letting it show? Who would want a man who looks forever so depressed? Who would want a man who is of such a low rank in the military? He is still single, and he has almost no more chance of finding himself a wife now. He has no family to be welcomed by when going home.
The person whom he wants to be his wife is always just there. He glances at her, and this time, auburn eyes caught his gaze, and smiles at him softly. He smiles back -- a rare sight. These three years, she had just as many chances to be promoted as he did. But she refused each promotion, and stayed firmly on her rank, a First Lieutenant. She is waiting for him to catch up with her and go ahead of her once more. She has never failed him, and she believes that he will not fail her either.
He has changed so much, but she accepts all these changes without complaint. She accepts who he was, who he is, and who he will become. She trusts him, just as he trusts her. For she loves him, and will forever do so.
She is the only person he wants as a wife. She is beautiful. She is a faithful subordinate; a loyal friend; a trustworthy confidante; and a true lover.
Who would want any other random girl when he had such a perfect woman?
The End
A/N: It hurts to write Roy Mustang getting old... Can you imagine him like this? I don't think I really can... Anyway, please read & review!
