Any Given Moment

The woman glanced out the window as the rain fell. Her hair was messy, tangled and looked as if it hadn't been washed in days. In her hands was a picture of a blonde man holding several pugs, the edges were smudged and crumpled from her hands. The tears began falling, ruining the photo even more. "Oh Nick," She whispered to the empty room. Suddenly a creaking voice floated in to the room.

"Morgan?" She looked up and smiled a bit as Nick came into the bedroom. He didn't let the prosthetic legs bother him as much as he used to. "Don't cry please." Morgan heard Nick plead as he wheeled over to the edge of the bed. She couldn't believe that only a year had gone by since Nick had lost his legs in a car bombing over in Afghanistan. The pain that he had endured made Morgan admire him so much more than before. Nick never said anything about it, but went about his business as before. There was only one time she could ever remember him complaining about the wheel chair.

Flashback

Morgan grinned as she watched him wheel around the house looking for his glasses. "I know I put them here somewhere." Nick kept repeating as he continued his mission.

"What're you looking for Nick?" She called out, standing and stretching. Nick rolled to a stop and looked at her from behind the kitchen table. Replying he said,

"I lost my glasses this…" He stopped when he saw that Morgan was twirling his 'lost' glasses around her fingers. "Hey!" Nick snapped at her, using all the force he could muster, he shot over to her and began to fight for his glasses. "Give 'em to me Morgan!" Nick said indignantly, reaching as far as he could.

"Here." Morgan said, handing him the glasses. Glancing down at her hands, Morgan stated quietly "I'm sorry Nick." Her tears began to flow freely. Nick put his arms around her and asked,

"Baby don't cry, please." It crushed Nick to see that she cried for him. But he guessed that showed how much she loved him. As Brian once told him, " 'Any woman who can cry with and for the man she loves is the one.'" And that was something that Nick lived by now. Morgan was the one that kept him stable when all he wanted to do was cry and tear out his hair. But this time, it just wasn't enough for Nick. Out of frustration he cried, "Goddamn wheelchair. Can't do anything now with this thing." Morgan gasped at his outburst and sniffled some more. "Morgan," He began again. "Stop crying! There is no reason to cry for me; I don't need it." Her face fell as he said the words. Nick realized he had gone too far when she stood up and walked out of the room.

Nick wrapped his arms around her waist and inhaled her perfume. "Mmmm you smell good," She laughed through her tears and smiled. The clock struck 2:00 PM and Nick said, "We've gotta go or else Brian will never let us live this down." He wheeled out of the door and Morgan just watched him. The love for Nick, that flowed through her, overwhelmed her entire being. Morgan stood up and followed Nick out the door and into the unsure future that each one knew was coming.

He waited for her at the foot of the stairs and smirked when she came down the stairs. Morgan crouched in front of him and said "I love you Nick Carter." And kissed him on the lips as he mumbled against hers,

"I love you too." With those words, Morgan knew this is where she belonged.
